Vaxi steeled herself, taking it all in. The archers and Irregulars ducked lower on the rooftops, awaiting the signal from their King to open fire. She steadied herself, closing her eyes and counting her breaths. After the third exhale, she pulled back on the drawstring, aiming the arrow at the oncoming horde, ready to let it fly. The Vandans breached the town limits, fanning out as the road widened into the broad circular thoroughfare between the third and fourth rings. Finally, the mass of armed men slowed, then stopped.
