It had been a year already, I miss Xyan. He's miles away..

I opened the message and it's Xyan!

"Mia! Wishing you a happy birthday! I miss you so much! Take care always," I smiled as I read the message.

I even forgot it's my birthday already

"thanks a lot, I miss you too ??", I texted back hoping with these emojies he will get my feelings for him.

"Permission to enter your office ma'am!" A male voice came from the other side of the door

I sat up straight and let them in

"Come in," I answered

"Ma'am, the new graduates from the recruitment of patrolmen are here, you are to talk to them at the conference hall for their orientation," Sgt Chiu informed me

"okay, I'll be there in a minute," I answered dismissively

I'm known as proper, firm, strict but just. I punish those who deserves it and rewards the one doing great. I can't help but some people are scared of me but most of my men respects me. Work is work for me.

I'm a chief in our precinct, our precinct is known to be the busiest and with most men because we're located in the business central district where lots of crimes happen.

As we arrived at the conference hall I saw 10 nervous newly graduated police officers standing up to greet me

"Good morning ma'am!" they greeted in unison

"Good morning sergeants! Have a seat," I answered

"As you all know, this is the busiest precinct in the city. I expect your full cooperation and for you to apply everything you learned from your trainings. You are the most junior here now. Respect those who came first before you. That's all, you will be ushered by our Admin officer to your designations. Have a good first day, "

Well, I'm not good with pep talks. I'm even shy. I hope they did not notice that I'm actually nervous. I just use my strict and neutral face as a front.

I stood up to leave but got a glimpse of someone among them.

Was that Nic? I hope not! My heart started racing and I left the hall in a hurry.
