Chapter Twelve “It must be related to the accident,” Lisa said. “Look, I’ve gotta go. Let me know if you hear from Emily… tell her I have her pearls.” Jenny was still thinking of the consequences of Stacy’s song and when she looked up, Lisa was gone: Puddle of blood, blood’s in a puddle, I hear the machine and know I’m in trouble...” The sound of the fuckin’ machine bore into Jenny’s skull. What was that damned thing? Determined now, she went to find the source of the low, unrelenting hum. She took the stairs down, two at a time, and stepped into the service alley. She side-stepped one of Stacy’s whirling lurches and stood silently between the buildings, listening hard.
