As they walked through the large corridor, filled with doors, Meridith's eyes scanned around..it was really nice and elegant.
"I'm sorry about that.. "Greg said
Meridith nodded "It's fine.. "
"Here's your room.. Make sure you're comfortable, and please, don't hesitate to tell me or any one around if you need anything.."
"Sure.. Thank you.. "
"I'll let you know when we begin work.. "
"Yes sir.. " she said but then noticed Greg looking at her with a confused face..then she shook her head "Greg.. Yes Greg.. "she said
"See you around.. " he said before walking away.
As she entered her room, she marvelled at the space and sight of it. It had nice interiors; everything mostly blue. Blue walls with sparkles like a night sky, the bed covered in blue sheets, the wardrobe white like the other furnitures, a work table located close to a large window she could pass through, and also, a large bathroom having similar interiors like that of the room.
As she sat on her bed and looked around, she smiled. She remembered the last time she had such a room to herself. It was when she lived with her parents, until age 16 when she had to leave for school. After that, she got a good job and partially stopped depending on her parents.
She thought she would be free finally, but only her mom kept bothering her about marriage and arranging multiple dates for her.
She rested on her bed and thought long about her life. In her teenage years, she'd been told to stay far from boys, and now, she was disturbed about marriage.
She knew mom would be happy about Gwen's thought of falling in love with this client, but this was what she least thought of. She wasn't ready for any sort of relationship, and her client on the other hand didn't look like he was having the best time with Kayla.
She didn't feel like sleeping.. besides, it was too early; so she decided to just take a walk around.
As she came out of her room, she looked in the direction of the kitchen and saw Greg. It was like he was struggling to do something.
She walked to the kitchen and saw he was trying to make some tea.
"Struggling to make.. tea? " she asked in a somewhat confused tone.
He turned around sharply, the mugs around hitting each other "No. " he said simply
"Doesn't look like it.. " Meridith said
"I was just doing other stuff." he said
"Okay.. " she said and waved her hand in the air as she turned around to go.
"Would you like some? " she heard him ask
She turned to look at him "If you can make it.. "
"Well.. I can.. " he said as he began making the tea.
Meridith could see he was doing it wrong, so she walked to where he was, took the items from him, made the tea and gave him one mug.
"I know it's not so easy for this kind of tea.. " she said
"You should've let me do it. " he said.
His words were always simple and short.. but didn't sound rude though.
"You're welcome.. " she said with a huge smile, making a small smile creep into Greg's face.
"Shouldn't we at least get to know each other? " he asked
She looked at him as he leaned on the kitchen counter. She saw it now that he had long legs and was really tall.
"What do you want to know? I'm sure you read my file.. "
"Other things that weren't mentioned in the file."
"You've got all the info you need for our business "Meridith said and turned around to walk away.
She didn't have the energy to tell someone about herself. She didn't even like it when she told people about herself and her numerous relationships.
"Let's be friends."she herd Greg say sharply making her turn and looking at him. He was up from the counter, now standing straight.
She looked at him, puzzled.
"I mean it. I don't have much friends.. "
"That's why you want us to be friends? Because you don't have much friends? "Meridith asked
"I like your tea.. Dad says we should keep people who do simple things in special ways.. they're special. "
Meridith didn't understand, and her face said it all.. "Okay.. So you think I'll be a good friend? Like you can trust me enough?"
"I think so..besides, you're fun to talk to. "He said with a smile.."..and please, drop the formalities..just call me Greg, and I call you Meridith.."
Meridith smiled a little.. "Right..then, if you say so."
"You'd have to be interested in being my friend too.. Don't do it cos I asked you to"
"I want to be your friend..I'm not doing it cos you said so..I just feel like"
"Why? "
"You're nice.. Not mean like other clients.. " she said as she lowered her voice and rolled her eyes.
"Hmm.. "Greg muttered thoughtfully "..tell me about it " he said as he took her already empty mug and put a chair close to her.
For a while in Meridith's mind, she thought. She thought about what it would be like to have a real conversation with someone other than Gwen. She didn't have much friends.
After few seconds of silence, she sat and began talking, and was even amazed by her boldness.
"Imagine the client shouting my name so disrespectfully like I was his little 'daughter'. " she said and put more emphasis on 'daughter ' making Greg chuckle lightly.
"So you tolerated him all along? " he asked
"What could I do? If I had taken care of his attitude, then he'd have definitely called customer care saying a worker was bullying or mistreating him. "
Greg laughed "Sorry you had to go through that.. I promise you, I'm nothing close to that. " He said reassuringly.
Meridith nodded slowly as she hadn't expected her client to say this. He was a big person after all.
Just then, they heard a familiar loud, shrieking voice, Kayla, from upstairs and down to the kitchen calling out 'Babe' loud enough for everyone to hear.
"I should go now mister.. " Meridith said "..it was nice having a conversation with you.." she added with a nice smile revealing her tiny dimples and making her pink lips look pinker.
As she walked out of the kitchen, she carefully avoided Kayla. But then, Kayla went into the kitchen and Meridith felt a weird silence. Then, Kayla came to her, calling her name loud like she was calling one of their servants.
"You're a worker here Meridith. So stop trying to steal my man. "
Meridith simply rolled her eyes a bit before turning to go, then she heard Greg say "She's not a worker. I told you, she's my advisor. " Greg's sentences were always so simple and short.
Kayla rolled her eyes and went over to him, about to caress him. But Meridith could see the slight disgust on his face. She felt sorry for him. He was probably forced to be with someone he didn't want. But then, he had someone, and she was pretty. Unlike her who had none. A Single Pringle.
She just silently wished her 'man-hunt' would quickly come to an end - with the right choice.
She silently walked to her room and just lay on the bed, stretching from tiredness. She needed rest, and she was going to get it to the fullest now. It was evening time already. She knew she hardly fell asleep this time, but then, she had a huge day ahead of her tomorrow.
