Meridith for up early the next morning to get water, and the first person she saw, was Greg.
"Good morning.. " she said as she entered the kitchen, but surprisingly, he just walked away.
Meridith shrugged.
Maybe he wasn't awake yet.
As she went back to her room, she received a call from Gwen.
"Hey.. " Meridith lazily said as she lay on the bed.
"Girl.. guess who came to your apartment.. " Gwen said
"Who? "
"Marcus.."
Meridith shrugged and shifted uncomfortably where she was " Who is that? "
"One of your dates.. your past dates.. "
"Oh no.. " Meridith sighed "..I blame you mom.. " she muttered
"He said he was sorry.. " Gwen said
"What?!, I don't even know him! "
"What are you going to do? " Gwen asked in a whisper
"I do not know. Mom has set up another date for me.. "
"What?, When? "
"Saturday, by 5.."
Gwen sighed "This is getting too much. "
"I know right.. and it'll ruin my reputation, now that I work with Mr. Mclarry.. "
"Then you'd have to make a solid decision for yourself.. You know your mom doesn't understand. "
"What do I do?, I have tried.. "
"Lie to her.. tell her you'll bring a man home soon.."
Meridith laughed "And that'll be the fifteenth time I'll be saying that.. "
Gwen sighed "I'm with you babe.. now go to work.. " she said sharply
"Bye.. " Meridith muttered
"Bye love.. " Gwen said and hung up.
"What a life." Meridith sighed and got up to prepare for work.
When she was done preparing, she came out, only to find Mr. Gibbs standing with a lot of files in his hands.
"We're leaving now. " he said
Meridith looked in confusion.
"He's not coming with us. " Mr. Gibbs finally said to answer her question.
"Ohh.. " she muttered.
She wondered if he was okay. First, he didn't reply her, and now, he didn't go with them - he didn't even show up at work..
***
"Nice work today. " Mr. Gibbs said.
"Umm..thanks.." Meridith said before asking "..are we going together? "
Mr. Gibbs shook his head "You go and take some rest. I'll work on this one. "
"Thank you. " she said as she walked out.
As she walked towards the exit, she heard whispers and different mutterings.
"..he didn't even show up.. " a voice said
"Again.. " another said wearily.
"I feel for him.. "
"Why? "
"He must be getting stressed with his wedding preparations. "
"And is that something to be worried about? "
"Yes.. in his condition.." the voice lowered into a whisper "..or didn't you see his girlfriend the other day? "
The other person gasped knowingly "Ohh.. "
Meridith just shook her head.
What in the world was all that?
No matter what the problem was, Greg needed help, and for some reason, she felt it was all true - even with what happened last night.
---------
It had been 2 weeks since Meridith's stay in the house, and she felt so part of it. But there was an issue - Greg wasn't himself.
That evening, as she went down for dinner, she felt out - out because the house was full, and she wasn't a member of the family. But then, one person gave her hope - Mr. Gibbs, so she sat with him.
"It's so nice to finally meet Greg's advisor.. " a young girl said. She looked so much like Greg. "His plans are now better. " she added.
"Greta? " Greg's mom called with a snare.
Greta sighed "I didn't mean it, and you know it.. " she said, then turned to Meridith "But it's nice to meet you. "
"Let's part and eat please. " Greg simply said.
His voice was so low, and all this while, he didn't even glance at Meridith - his friend.
As they started eating, Greg's mom spoke up.
"I'm really glad to announce that the wedding preparations for Greg and Kayla's wedding has begun. "
Greg shot his mom a sharp glare "Has begun? "
"Yes.. " she said "Has begun. "
Greg sighed and was about to say something, when his mom quickly said "There are visitors, Gregory. "
Greta on the other hand was restless and spoke up.
"If you won't let him talk, then I'll talk. " she said "Don't force him to marry who he doesn't want to marry. "
Greg's mom got up angrily and was about to hit Greta when Greg stopped her form doing so.
"I'm done. " he said as he walked away while Kayla got up to follow him.
"Don't. " he said, his voice deep and stern as he angrily glared at her.
Meridith just looked around. There was nothing she could do to help.
