Chapter four

Zariah . . I kicked a stone down the street, grumbling like a grumpy granny. “Why does he have to be such a jerk?” I muttered to myself. “I just wanted to say thank you. Was I wrong?” I huffed and kicked another pebble, pretending it was his face. Dragging myself home, I tried to shake off the humiliation, but it clung to me like wet clothes. As soon as I stepped in, I plastered a big, fake smile on my face for my dad’s sake. I didn't want him to worry about me, especially in the condition he was in. “You look happy,” he said with a sparkle in his eye. I wish they would always sparkle like this. “I got the job, I have a job now dad!” I beamed for real this time. His face lit up like a Christmas tree. We clinked glasses of cheap wine, celebrating my new job. Later that night, I called Rina, ranting about how my day went. “Girl, he’s hot but rude. Like, I wanna slap him and then maybe cry a little. That dude frustrates me”. I said with a sigh “But he's so hot. I mean, you're the person assistant of the hot billionaire Caden Knight!!!”. I was very sure she was fanning her face, the girl loved hot guys “Why do you keep emphasizing on how hot he is, the guy is cold, arrogant and ruthless. He's a meanie”. I tried to talk so sense into her. “I don't care….”. She sang the words. “Whatever”, I dismissed the matter. We laughed till midnight and when I tried to sleep I couldn't. My mind kept circling back to the same question—Why the heck did he give me a job without an interview? I finally passed out after overthinking myself into a coma, only to wake up in full panic mode. I was late, very late. I threw on the cleanest clothes I could find, grabbed my bag, and ran to work. I knocked on Caden's door. “Come in,” he said. Hands in his pockets, eyes staring out the window like he was lost in thoughts. I stepped in nervously, chewing on my nails. His vibe was ice cold, I had the urge to run away from him. “You’re late,” he finally said, turning around. His voice was calm, but the kind of calm that made you nervous. Like the quiet before a storm. “I… I…” I stuttered. He didn’t give me the chance to finish. Instead, he started listing how his coffee should be made every morning and all he's files arranged and other things a personal assistant should do. “We have a lunch meeting with some business partners. You’re coming.” “Am I supposed to be in a business meeting. I'm just your personal assistant, not your main assistant or secretary” “Are you questioning my order, Miss Monroe?”. He tilted his head and stared at me with those cold green eyes. “No Sir”. I shook my head, gosh, I was so scared of this man. I don't know what's with his attitude today, he seemed dangerous. Then, as if that wasn’t enough, he dumped a mountain of documents on me like I was his full-time secretary. “But I’m just your personal assistant,” I said, I couldn't help it. “And?” he said like that explained everything. I glared at him but took the files anyway, muttering curses under my breath and mentally kicking him. My office was opposite his, so I couldn’t even scream in peace. I was still working on the documents when Caden's Assistant, asked me to prepare for the meeting. I had just found out that the man who was staring at me like I was crazy, was Caden's Assistant. I quickly packed my bag and made my way to the elevator. There was only one car in the parking lot Jasper directed me to. So I tapped slightly on the window, but nobody answered me. So I stood outside the car, I didn't want to get kidnapped for entering the wrong vehicle. “Are you coming in or not”. Caden said when he finally rolled the window down. I quickly entered the car. I looked around but I didn't see Jasper. “Where is Jasper?” I asked. “Why are you concerned about my assistant”, he raised a brow at me. I didn't have the strength to argue with him so I let the matter go. I needed to save my strength for the remaining files on my desk. There was no tension in the air as Robin drove us smoothly to the restaurant. The lunch meeting started off decent. The food was good, and I wasn’t about to let my annoying, cold-hearted boss ruin that for me. I stayed quiet, focusing on my plate while Caden talked business with the investors. Until… I felt a hand on my thigh. At first, I thought it was an accident but then it stayed there. Fingers slowly moving. I stiffened. My eyes shot up to Mr. Greg who sat next to me, the old man with too much cologne and a bad breath. He gave me a wink. Ewww. My skin crawled. “I’ll be right back,” I said, standing up so fast, excusing myself. I didn’t look at Caden, I couldn’t. My face burned with embarrassment and rage. I walked quickly to the restroom, trying not to cry. I pushed open the door to the women’s bathroom and exhaled shakily. My hands clutched the sink as I tried to calm down. Then the door opened. Click. The person who entered locked the doorbehind me. I could hear the person's Footsteps. I could have dismissed the matter, but why did the person lock the door?, the slow footsteps were suspicious. I spun around but it was too late. He was already there. Mr. Greg’s disgusting grin spread across his face as he reached for me. His hand grabbed my breast roughly. My heart stopped working for a moment. “You shouldn’t have worn something so tight if you didn’t want attention,” he said, voice low and slimy. For goodness sake, I was wearing a dress that was below knee length and it didn't really hug my body. Oh God. Was I about to get r***d?, Should I scream?, Fight?, Kick?. Different thoughts running through my mind. I froze as tears welled up in my eyes. No I wasn't going to stand there and do nothing, I had to save myself.
