Cornered and Combative

Its been another week guys and I am losing my mind! So not only does this arrogant prick buy the company I work for! He buys my apartment complex, he buys my favorite coffee shop! Its like he's buying every way he can to keep tabs on me! Not only that but I've received flowers, gift baskets, and expensive chocolates all to my doorstep! It's gotten to the point where I've asked to have a meeting with the guy. Which to no one's surprise he was eager to meet. But heres the catch he wouldn't be coming to my relatively small company. He expected me to meet him at Greystone Industries headquarters. He offered to send a limousine something I shut down immediately. I don't get this guy, sure I saved his life but I've been nothing but rude to him since. I still don't understand why he was smiling when I rejected him. And the more I reject his gifts and gestures the more eager he is to top the last one. My head swarmed with thoughts like these I almost passed the building I was supposed to meet him in. My neck hurt trying to see the top. This wasn't some Pharmaceutical company with a handful of products like my job. No this was truly a skyscraper, I could tell this was a build executives and department heads congregated at. Guards posted out front, Windows all the way up kept immaculately clean, a chauffeur receiving keys to cars that I'm sure are worth more than my net worth. But I'm basically stalling at this point, I took a deep breath and walked up to the guards standing at the door. "Do you have business here ma'am?" The first guard addressed me as I approached my common clothing affecting his tone. He sounded like he knew I didn't belong here. "Yes my name is Alina Walters, I've set up a meeting with mister Greystone?" The moment my name left my lips the guards whole demeanor changed looking to his partner who had an equally shocked expression. I looked confused why I was receiving such a reaction but the second guard spoke up before I could ask. "He's been expecting you ms walters just head inside, take the elevator in the back of the lobby up to the top floor." I give a curt nod and enter the lobby. I was expecting opulence but I wasn't ready for this level beyond the front doors. Crystal chandeliers dotted the high ceilings, the ceilings and walls were black with an intricate black filigree, paintings lining the walls, and advant garde furniture that was clearly a stylistic choice. The secretary at the front desk looked at me momentarily, but clearly if I made it passed the guards she had no need to be concerned with me. Her head returning to whatever task was on the computer beside her. I made my way to the elevator and once inside I could see dozens of buttons, this building truly was massive. Though I guess thats to be expected of a multibillion dollar global conglomerate. I pressed the button and began my ascent. I was half nervous and half indignant. Sure this guy was clearly high up on the food chain, but I can't just let him go on thinking that buying me gifts and favor will eventually buy him my affection. I am a woman of principles and I need to stand firm! That being said I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. The man owns my job, my home, hell even my favorite cafe in the palm of his hand. I just got to hope behind those alluring oppressive eyes, is a reasonable mind that can be persuaded by logic and empathy. The door opened revealing glass doors that lead to what I would call more of a living room than an office. It had a fireplace, bookshelves, lounge furniture like sofa's and couches. But there was clearly an area where business would be done. A large Mahogany desk with complex carvings, a large leather chair that had windows right behind it overlooking the city. And right in that chair was the man behind it all. His eyes, those eyes that I struggled to pull away from were half lidded, his lips curled into a condescending smirk. Atleast that was the impression I got. His voice rang out with those smooth tones I had become accustomed to over these past few weeks. "Greetings ms walters, I'm so happy you could make it. Honestly I'm surprised it took you a full week to reach out to me. Please pull up a chair, make yourself comfortable." The way he looked at me, it felt like a cat watching a rat that just walked into the trap. His devious Cheshire grin was only topped by the piercing eyes. I swear they're glowing, am I going crazy? "Listen, you need to stop with all the excessive gifts and the buying places in my life. I appreciate that you like me but the smothering isn't doing you any favors." My words were harsh but he looked more confused than bothered by them. "Then tell me exactly how does one court the pragmatic Alina Walters?" He spoke coyly but also with a hint of sincerity. I don't even know why, but when I look into his eyes I don't want to reject him out right. I still get that strange feeling when I see them but I also see.... loneliness behind his smile? As I pondered my anwser he stood up and went to a nearby cabinet and pulled out glasses and some kind of expensive looking liquor. The kind people would break open after a successful business deal. I spoke as he poured two glasses."Why me? Sure I saved you, I'm selfless or whatever. But that was temporary, a momentary incident. Yet your interest in me hasn't waned in the slightest? What makes me so special? you're rich, famous, admittedly handsome. I bet you have no shortage of women twice as beautiful and smart as me throwing themselves at you." For the first time a look of disgust and discomfort crossed his face. He came back to the desk and handed me one of the drinks as he replied. "You're right, there are many woman who would beg to be in your position. Having my undivided attention and fascination. Though lets leave it at this since the real reason is too private for me at this point. The reason I want you and not them is because I can't trust their feelings. whether it be my wealth, influence, or... other reasons these women could have false infatuation with me. But you, you are different aren't you? I'll admit when I offered to take you to dinner initially it was merely as a token of thanks for your heroics." He took a sip of his drink before continuing. " But watching you shoot me down, watching you deny..." his eyes betrayed him full of hope and pleading " well what I mean to say is that I can be certain that if I can get you to give me a chance. Then whatever grows between us it'll be real, whatever it is it'll be real. So I ask again. What do I have to do to get you to take me request seriously?" I was floored, the man before me wasn't the arrogant rich guy I thought was entitled and waving around his wallet. Right now I saw someone vulnerable, someone who bared their heart hoping I would be their anwser to a world of loneliness. I never considered all the fake smiles and candied lies someone in his position had to deal with on a daily basis. Before I knew it I was answering his question, returning his sincerity with my own. "Fine, you can take me to dinner. But! only if you stop all the sending gifts to my apartment, buying places I live or frequent, and trying to buy my affection with all these grand gestures. Let me meet you, you wanted me to like you for you anyway right? Then let me meet him. The real Hector Greystone." The smile that lit up his face I couldn't help but find endearing. And so began my relationship with a lonely billionaire, God what have I gotten myself into?
