Chapter 12: The Wishing Tree
The morning sun shone brightly over Happy Meadow as Benny Bunny stepped outside with his little red backpack. The air was fresh, and the birds sang sweet songs from the treetops.
"Today feels like another wonderful adventure," Benny said with a smile.
As Benny skipped along the path, he met Rosie Rabbit, Timmy Turtle, Oliver Owl, Penny Panda, Finn Fox, and Daisy Duck.
"Good morning, everyone!" Benny called.
"Good morning!" his friends replied.
Just then, Oliver Owl flew down from a tall oak tree.
"I have exciting news!" he said.
"The Wishing Tree Festival is today!"
"The Wishing Tree?" asked Finn.
Oliver nodded.
"It is the oldest tree in Happy Meadow. Every year, everyone writes a kind wish for someone else and hangs it on the tree."
"That sounds wonderful," Benny said.
The friends hurried to the center of the meadow, where the giant Wishing Tree stood with its wide branches stretching toward the sky.
The mayor welcomed everyone with a warm smile.
"Today isn't about wishing for toys or treats," the mayor explained. "It's about wishing happiness, health, courage, and kindness for others."
Everyone received a small colorful paper leaf and a tiny ribbon.
Benny thought carefully before writing:
"I wish every friend in Happy Meadow feels loved, safe, and happy every day."
Rosie wrote a wish for flowers to bloom all year so bees would always have nectar.
Timmy wished that everyone would always have someone to help them.
Oliver wished for wisdom and kindness to fill every home.
Finn smiled as he wrote his wish.
"I wish I will always have friends like all of you."
Benny smiled warmly.
"You already do."
One by one, everyone tied their colorful wishes to the branches.
Soon the Wishing Tree sparkled with hundreds of bright paper leaves dancing in the gentle breeze.
As the friends admired the beautiful tree, they heard soft crying nearby.
A little hedgehog sat beneath a bush.
"My paper leaf blew away before I could hang it," he sniffled.
"Don't worry," Benny said kindly.
"We'll help you find it."
The friends searched all around the meadow.
Oliver flew high above the trees.
Timmy looked carefully beside the rocks.
Rosie searched among the flowers.
Finn followed tiny footprints through the grass.
Finally, Daisy Duck pointed toward a small stream.
"Look!"
The little paper leaf had landed beside the water.
Benny carefully picked it up and handed it to the little hedgehog.
"Thank you!" the hedgehog said happily.
He wrote his wish:
"I hope everyone has someone to make them smile."
Then he proudly tied it onto the Wishing Tree.
As the sun began to set, hundreds of tiny lanterns hanging from the branches glowed with warm golden light.
The tree looked magical.
The mayor smiled at everyone.
"Today you have shown that the greatest wishes are the ones we make for others."
Benny looked at all his friends laughing together beneath the glowing tree.
"My wish has already come true," he whispered.
Rosie smiled.
"What was your wish?"
Benny looked around at everyone.
"To be surrounded by kind friends every day."
His friends smiled and gave him a warm hug.
As the stars filled the night sky, everyone walked home together, knowing that kindness, friendship, and love were the greatest gifts anyone could ever receive.
