A throne for the taking

As soon as they burst through the door, Dora was met by The Luna pulling her into a bear hug. Her cheeks were still stained by tears, her eyes were red, and she looked like she didn't get a wink of sleep the previous night. Dora was the youngest in the family, and Luna was immensely against the idea of sending her out after the rogue. But no one could change the Alphas mind after he already made the decision. No reasoning, or pleading would convince him against his choice. He always thought he was right, so stuck in his own ways, that he didn't care about anything anyone else might say, which made her furious. If not for the pack and her children, she probably would have already left him a long time ago, but then there would be no one left to pick up the pieces after his reckless actions.     She glanced at Kane, gave him a quick hug and jerked with her head towards the study. Kane was her firstborn. Strong, independent and responsible. He was going to make a great Alpha one day, hopefully, sooner than later, she thought. It's a shame his father wouldn't give him the credit he deserves. If not for Kane, this pack would have fallen apart years ago. Luna was petrified for what was waiting for him behind those doors, but she knew, that whatever happens, he will able to handle it. She followed him with her eyes as he walked of, hoping for the best.     Kane knew that the Alpha was already waiting to get the details of their pursuit.      "May I come in," Kane asked as he knocked at the door.     "Come in, boy," came the answer from the other side, "did you succeed in your mission? Tell me everything and don't spare any details. What did you find out from the rogue?"     "We found the rogue, Sir, but it was already killed by another wolf," he hesitated for a moment," the wolf was not one of us."     "And where is the other rogue now?"      "Sir, with all due respect, I don't think that wolf was a rogue," Kane said as he furrowed his brows.     "I don't believe, I asked you for your opinion. I asked you for the facts, let me come to my own conclusions," he spit venomously, "you failed in your task and dare to state your thoughts?"     Kane was about to snap back, when they heard a commotion outside. There were screams, flashes from gun shots fired and suddenly- silence. The both of them ran outside and saw two of the guards laying on the ground right by the entrance to the mansion with their throats torn. Further in the distance was the white she-wolf, holding the third man by his arm in her huge jaws, teeth sunk deep into his flesh. She growled, tossed the man to the side and lunged at the Alpha. Before she could jump him, he switched to his wolf-self and swiftly moved out of the way. With a sudden blow to the side he sent her hurling to the ground. He quickly climbed atop of her, pressing her shoulders down with all his weight. He opened his jaw widely getting ready for the killing strike when Kane roared, for the first time, using his Alpha voice on his father.     "Stop! She is my mate."     Alpha looked at him, but it was too late. Nothing could turn his father from the path he has chosen. Those deep blue eyes looked at Kane, empty of emotion, seemingly not expecting mercy. And at that moment he knew what he would have to do. He had to kill his father to save his mate.      Suddenly the weight was gone from atop of her and she saw two wolfs flying over her, tumbling down the stairs and locking into a combat that only one would come back from alive.      "Stop this madness, Adam," came the pleading scream of the Luna, "have you completely lost your," she stopped mid-sentence when she noticed the white wolf standing to her left.     But she hadn't noticed the Luna, her eyes were fixed on the scene in front of them. She looked as a confused puppy; head tilted, ears pressed back, eyes full of astonishment.      There was a sudden high-pitched whimper as Kane clawed at the Alphas eyes and blood gushed from his face. With one swift move he bit into his father’s throat, shook him violently and didn't let go until the last breath had left his lungs.      As he looked up, his mother was looking back at him, not a shred of contempt in her eyes, only relief. By her side, stood a stark-naked woman, with long, black, wavy hair going down to her hips. Her face; kind but at the same time fierce. Her black, bold eyebrows perfectly arching her hooded eyes. He has seen those beautiful, sapphire blue eyes somewhere before. And then the realization hit him as the lighting struck somewhere in the distance.       "MATE!", his wolf exclaimed for the second time today.
