Chapter Three

CLIO'S POV “I don't know what you're talking about,” I suddenly said, eager to get them out of my house while Sessaphina kept urging me to give in to my desires. “Shut up,” I hushed the restless wolf before repressing her so that I wouldn't listen to her words. The moon goddess had made a mistake; this was a mistake. Zane looked at me and raised a brow. “It seems you take us to not know what we're doing, but matter of fact, we do. We know why we're here, and we do know who you are. We wouldn't have come here otherwise,” he said, with a slight frown. The tension in the air seemed to reduce, and I sighed, palming my face in my hands as I struggled to think of what to say. There has to be some way to get them out of my sight and out of my life as a whole. “What? How do you know I was the one that night? You could be making a mistake,” I said, huffing slightly. Zaren tilted his head and smirked. “what night? It seems like you got yourself in trouble already. We didn't mention anything about that night,” he stated. Zane nodded slightly, and I almost punched myself in the mouth. Darn, my stupid mouth. “I was just guessing,” I rolled my eyes. Zaren shook his head, his eyes glinting slightly as he peeked behind me, making me close the door an inch. “We're not here to cause a scene. We just want what's ours,” Zane said casually. What's theirs? Funny how they thought they could take possession of me. If there was one thing that living on my own had taught me, it was that I shouldn't let myself be intimidated. “And what is yours? You know what's funny? I can't even remember what happened that night,” I said, waiting for an answer. I couldn't remember exactly what had happened; I had remembered only the main part of the night but not what led to the s*x. “Oh well, Zaren and I were at the club too that night to relax." Zane began when I cut in. “What were you doing in the werewolf realm?” I asked, my tone getting impatient. “If you would just let me finish, that would be nice. Thank you very much. So Zaren and I had to visit the werewolf realm for business with some people, and then we saw the incoming storm that night, so of course, we knew that we couldn't continue our journey, so we decided to make a pitstop for the night before we resume our journey in the morning." He paused and waited for me to show that I was listening. My eyes were fixed on Zaren, who was using his nails to scratch at my doorframe, seemingly deep in thought. I turned back to Zane and nodded. “Yes, I am listening. I still don't see how this concerns me though,” I said, trying to keep my blank look on my face. I heard the sound of something clattering in Pearl's room, and my hand on the door tightened slightly as I itched to get back to her room to make sure that she was fine. Zane looked behind me, and his eyes darkened. He knew. “Go on quickly. I have things doing,” I said, diverting his attention back to me again. “So as I was saying. We went to the club, and then we saw you there drinking, and that was the moment we realized that we were mates, so I guess that's about it. The mate bond seemed to hike our feelings, and we ended up having s*x,” he said bluntly. I cringed at it and sighed before shaking my head at him. “Thank you very much. It was nice meeting you both, black Wood brothers." There was a hint of mockery in my tone as I tried closing the door, but Zaren, who seemed absentminded, suddenly placed his hand there, and the door refused to budge. “We just told you what happened and why we're here. What more?” He asked, annoyance beginning to show in his tone. “What more is that you two should leave me the hell alone?" It happened six years ago; don't bring my past to haunt me again; I don't think that's right if you had any sense of manners," I spat out at them, my anger getting the best of me. I expected them to get mad, but it seemed like they were just a bit more curious. “Interesting…” Zane muttered, looking me over. “So what? You're rejecting us? You're going to try and run away from the truth?” Zaren asked, his eyes flashing with amusement. I rolled my eyes and replied to him, “As a matter of fact, I just want to run away from the past. So why don't you take yourselves back to where you belong? This conversation is done,” I said and tried closing the door again, but it didn't budge under Zaren’s strong hold. “I hope you know, Clio." Zane paused, and my heart skipped a beat. Stupid mate bond. How did he know my name? Wow, so they had done their research on me? “We didn't choose this. The moon goddess did, and if you think that we're going back just because of this, you're utterly wrong. We're not. It is the moon goddess wish, and we're simply doing it. We know about the kid; it's ours, isn't it?” He asked, his eyes piercing into mine. So apparently it seemed their research had not included Nate. I wondered if they knew that I also didn't know who was Pearl's father; it could be them, but it was also likely that it was Nate's. “I think the moon goddess made a mistake. I've been here for six years, and I just want you to know that I don't need you guys in my life or hers. To hell with the mate bond, I have survived for six years without my mate, and so have you so forgotten it exists? It shouldn't be that much of a big stretch, right?” I asked. “Now get your hands off my door,” I ordered. The two men I didn't say anything; Zaren quietly removed his hand, and I smiled. “Bye,” I muttered, then slammed the door in their faces. Okay, I survived that. “Mum?” I heard Pearl shriek from her room, and I quickly went over to her, hoping that they had left the house and decided to leave me forever. As soon as I got to the door of her room, I heard the sound of splintering wood from the front door as though my door had been kicked open. My eyes widened, and I quickly locked the door to Pearl's room despite her cries of refusal. I wanted to turn around to see what had happened, but then I felt hot breath on my neck and the feeling of someone behind me. Someone that made my heart skip and Seraphina start her chant of "mate.”. “Don't move, Clio,” he breathed down my neck. This was becoming a nightmare for me.
