Chapter One

CLIO'S POV “Is he done with the meeting?” I asked the maid trailing after me as I walked up the stairs. “Yes, Luna. The alpha is back from the meeting and is up in his room." The young maid called Rita replied, her blue eyes shining bright with excitement as she walked directly behind me. “Okay, that'll be all I think; you're excused," I said with a nod, stopping just at the beginning of the hallway leading to the rooms. “Would you want me to run a hot bath for you, Luna?” She asked with a curtsy. I looked outside at the incoming storm, contemplating accepting her offer or saying no. Well, I guess I could use a hot bath. “Sure. Do just that. I'll be there in a moment,” I said with a smile. It was a good day, or shall I say night? Everything had gone according to plan, and I just wanted to meet Nate and cuddle with him. Gleefully, I walked to his room, almost bouncing in my shoes to see him. My hand reached out to open the door, but I stopped, listened, and I heard it. Voices. Not just voices. Very familiar voices. With a trembling hand, I silently uttered all the prayers I knew to the moon goddess and gently opened the door, stepping in. It seems like prayers don't work then because the sight that greeted me was one that made my knees go weak. My sister. My stepsister Cassie. In bed with my husband. Nate. My mouth formed an iron 'o' and I stared at them. They didn't even seem shocked to see me. One would expect that they would be scrambling up to cover themselves, but no, they were just sitting there under the safety of the covers and staring right back at me. “Nate…” I whispered, my voice beginning to fail me. He sighed and averted his gaze, his hand threading in the hair of the woman I called my sister. “What are you looking for here?” The woman who I once called my best friend and sister, Cassie, sneered whole, snuggling deeper into the covers of the bed. I closed my mouth and opened it a couple of times until I finally found my voice. “What are you doing here in my room?” I croaked. She rolled her eyes at me and glared openly. “Your room? Last I checked, this was the Alpha's room. Not yours. And I'm welcome here, but you aren't.” I could literally feel the blood rushing in my veins and my heart pounding in my chest. My eyes darted to Nate in a panicked state, waiting for him to say something. Anything at all. There was a perfect explanation for this, right? There had to be. He couldn't have just betrayed me. Yet there he was avoiding my gaze while my sister shamed me with her vicious tongue that I was just learning about. I took hurried steps out of the room and back to mine, tears blurring my vision. It was a blessing, wasn't it? Having tears fill your eyes because at least you didn't have to see the sight in front of you. I needed to get out of the pack; I couldn't bear to watch the two of them. I immediately began to pack my stuff, not caring where I was going, but what I knew was that I couldn't stay here. No. Why would he do that, though? Memories from when I had first met him came to mind. He was calm and always made sure that I had what I wanted; the memories of him comforting me during tough times came rushing back, and I blinked hot tears away. I just had one thing in mind now. Where would I go? I had already gotten out of the pack, and it was the dead of the night—not exactly the most ideal time for a grown woman who was heartbroken to be roaming about. No, I needed to find a place to stay. I wouldn't give Nate the satisfaction of rejecting me; the mate bond would remain intact, yes. That was what I wanted. To save myself from rejection and put myself together. If I had stayed in the pack, I would be scorned and ridiculed, and I didn't want to go back to that life. It had been hours since I left the pack, and my legs were beginning to ache. I really needed to find a place to rest, but I didn't exactly have someone that I could turn to, so what do I do? As I walked, my eyes caught a small building with the sound of laughter and chattering echoing from it. What was that? Was that a...club? I looked around the eerie night, weighing my options carefully. Well, this was a no-brainer for me. Perhaps they had a room that they could spare. I would rather take my chances there than out here. Sighing, I walked into the club and was immediately wowed by the sights that greeted me. Lights and people. Lots of people. This was my first time being in a place like this, and I wasn't sure what to feel in the sea of people that crowded here. Making my way over to the bar, I sat down and was offered a couple of drinks, which I downed immediately. I had a couple more drinks because it helped me forget my worries, and then I blacked out. I lost control. I was woken up by a loud sound afar, and I jerked away, my head seriously aching. What the f**k happened? I tried to make sense of my surroundings as I looked around the spacious room I was in while trying to hold my aching head. Room? That made me jolt awake, and I looked down to see that I was n***d in bed, but that wasn't even the worst part. I wasn't alone. On either side of the bed with me were two men. Oh goddess, what had I done?
