Chapter 13

1828 Words
Chase’s POV Whatever it was that was surrounding Callie was powerful, it nearly knocked me off of my feet.  It would only allow one of us to get through it.  Callie needed to live, without her, all hope is lost; and I will die without her. She is my mate.  Killian threw himself against whatever it was surrounding Callie and bounced off it like it was nothing but a bouncy castle.  Skye tried to get through along with Alpha Elijah and Jayden. Everything they tried was useless.  I put my hand against the ball of energy that surrounded Callie and silently begged her to stop this, to look up at me. Instead when she looked up, she looked at Killian and in that moment I felt nothing but rage.  In her final moments, it was not her mate she wanted, but some good for nothing Alpha who lost most of his pack before settling here.  I growled lowly, but no one paid attention to me.  Callie wanted to leave us and there is nothing either of us could do about it.  “Elijah, I can’t get through.” Skye cried, Callie’s mother was on her knees crying as she watched her daughter.  Jayden growled and punched the wall, leaving a whole where his fist had been. “Callie, stop this.” He yelled, he was telling her but not as her Alpha but as her older brother. Through all the commotion nobody noticed Joseph, who silently made his way to the ball of energy, he didn’t look sad he looked angry.  Joseph stared at his sister and I swore I felt the anger radiating off him. Then the unexpected happened, Joseph walked right through the ball of energy that surrounded Callie and put his hand on Callie’s shoulder.  A simple touch and Callie passed out. The ball of energy that surrounded her disappeared and the rest of us just stood around the pair of them. “Joseph?” Skye said softly, a mixture of love and surprise could be seen in her eyes.  The look Skye had in her eyes was something I have not seen in my own mother’s eyes for a long time. Not since she found out about what I had done to Callie.  “Is she okay?”     Joseph asked softly, a slight whimper escaping his lips. “I didn’t hurt her, did I?” Nobody knew what to say. Nobody knew the answer to his question.  Killian moved to Callie’s side and touched her neck. “She is okay,” he said to everyone but we all  knew it was directed to Joseph. “Good.” Joseph said and then walked out of the room as though nothing happened.  Jayden looked around at everyone. He looked angry and sad, I knew how he felt. Callie wanted to end her life and her death would have only succeeded in hurting us all.  “I am going to go find Alex, Killian put her in bed and watch her. Mom, go fetch the sedatives from doc bring them here immediately. I don’t want her to wake up and try to hurt herself again.” Jayden commanded.  I stood there waiting for Jayden to tell me to do something, but that never happened. He completely ignored me and walked right past me when he left to go find Alex.  All of it a reminder that I am not wanted here and don’t belong, a reminder that Callie doesn’t want me.  It looks like everyone is already aware of what I put Callie through. They don’t want me here and Callie has already let go of me. She has replaced me, in her heart I no longer belong.  Jayden’s POV “Whatever Joseph did knocked her right out. I can sense her wolf now, which is a good sign.”  Alex said as he held his hands on either side of Callie’s face. “I got a feeling that Callie’s wolf is preparing for something big. It is almost as though she is preparing to leave Callie.”  Alex’s words barely made any sense to me, then again, everything that was going on barely made any sense to me.  “What happens now?” I asked as I just watched Alex work his magic on Callie. Alex paused and looked at me before he spoke. “Honestly, I don’t know. Her wolf will help prevent her from trying to kill herself but when her daughter is born, Callie will be on her own.  That is when fate decides what happens, and we already know what is going to happen.” His words terrified me, because I did know what was going to happen and there is nothing we can do about it. I looked at Callie and saw that she looked so peaceful in her state and I noticed something on the side of her neck, something that wasn’t there before.  “What’s that on her neck?”  Alex moved Callie’s hair away from her neck and we saw a tattoo that looked as though she had it for years. The intricate design looked like nothing I have ever seen before and all I could think of is if that tattoo was a good thing or a bad thing. These days I can’t tell the difference.   “I know this mark.” Alex said in a tone that sounded frightened and amazed at the same time.  “Tell me about it!” I commanded, needing to know what it was.  “That mark has only been seen once before, a very long time ago.” Alex stopped talking and when he looked up at me I could tell that he was conflicted and didn’t know if he should tell me. “What is it? Please tell me.” “I saw that mark in a dream, you know how some people see the future like your mate. I can see the past.” Alex took a deep breath and looked down at Callie, more specifically the mark on her. “Five years ago, a dream I had showed me the past but it wasn’t like before. It was different; I was out for two days. It was the first time I had a vision of the past that I was out for longer than an hour.” “What did you see?” I knew Alex heard my question, but it seemed like it fell on deaf ears.  “I will show you.” Alex got up and put his hand on either side of my head. He said a few words and I felt like I was transported to another time.  The city I was in looked like ancient Greece or something.  I saw that Alex was right next to me and he began to explain everything with one sentence.  “We are in Pompeii 79AD.” My history lessons in high school came to mind and I knew that it was the year that Mount Vesuvius erupted and destroyed Pompeii. I felt my blood run cold as I looked at all the people that surrounded me and I saw something else that shocked me.  There were werewolves who were playing freely and dark areas all around with shadows moving through them. “They are vampires.” Alex explained, without me needing to ask anything.  In this one city alone, everyone got along. There weren’t only werewolves here, but other lycans as well, witches and wizards and humans as well.  I tried to shout. I wanted to warn them of the impending disaster that was about to come, but no one heard me.  “Why can’t they hear me?” I asked, panicked that all these people here could die soon and there is nothing I could do to help them.  “I know what you want to do Jayden, but it won’t help. They are already dead, we can’t change the past.” I just nodded my head in defeat. “There he is.” Alex said and I saw him look at a man who seemed to be ruler of all around here.  People moved out of his way and cowered in front of him. Whoever he was they were all afraid of him for some reason.  His steps faltered and a young girl made her way to him and smiled.  For a brief moment, everything about him changed and I saw a goodness in him that didn’t seem to belong there. He carried on with his stride to who knows where and I saw the mark that Callie now has on the back of his shoulder.  I didn’t need to see anymore to know what happens, I don’t think I could handle it if I saw what was about to happen. Death and destruction was going to come and I didn’t want to watch an entire city destroyed.  “He is the reason that Pompeii is destroyed, isn’t he?” “Yes, Mount Vesuvius was always going to erupt and when it did the people would have been fine, their magic was more than strong enough to protect them all but When Mount Vesuvius erupted so did he.” Alex explained and put his hand on my shoulder. “We can leave now, you don’t have to see this it will haunt you for the rest of your days.” “Take me out.” A second later I was back in the room with Alex and his hands were still on either side of my face.  “That still doesn’t explain anything, all we know now is that that mark is definitely a bad thing.”  I said when Alex’s eyes opened and he moved his hands away from my head. “We know what happened in the past and we have something they never had.” “What do we have because after seeing that I believe all hope for something good to come out of this is lost.” Alex shook his head and growled at me. In that moment he seemed more wolf than me. “Callie can either end up destroying the world as we know it or end up saving it in a way we never could or will ever imagine. And don’t you ever say that again. We do have hope and Callie’s daughter will prevail.” His words cut right through me. I was ashamed of myself and I knew he was right. All hope is not lost. Not yet, anyway.
