Valeria felt that everything was over the moment Adolf left. Her thoughts were filled with hurt, disbelief, and confusion. She felt the cold night biting on her skin as his rejection hit her chest very hard. Her intention was to scream, to express her anger, to make him see how his rejection had hurt her, but she was speechless. All that she could remember was the echo of his harsh words. I can not be what you need, Valeria. That memory of his words stayed in her mind, but he had made his choice. He had turned her down. But why would he make her go through this emotional trauma? What has she done wrong other than to respond to the bond they share? The wolf in her was howling in sorrow, but Valeria refused to acknowledge it. She was so tired to noticing the pain within, just as she was too tired to allow the tears to drop. Her world had become blurry as the pain of betrayal clouded her vision. She did not know it would end before it even started. Adolf, her mate, had discarded her as if she meant nothing. The ache in her chest slowed her steps, yet she could not stop moving. She had not done anything to warrant this rejection. I am putting this behind me. That thought rang very loudly in her mind, but she could not stop the tears that rolled down her cheeks. They mixed with the cold wind. She angrily wiped them away, her body shook from the chill which she felt and the sorrow in her heart. In spite of the turmoil she felt at that moment, she heard something. It was a low growl. Her heart paced very fast as her instincts took over, her wolf had awakened. She froze, her body was tensed, her nerves became alert. She heard the growl again. It was closer this time. Valeria looked around the dark forest. She didn't see anyone, fear had enveloped her. This was not a wolf from her pack, it was a different thing. A sharp rustling sound reached her from behind. Valerie turned immediately to behold the shining eyes that watched her from the dark. She did not have enough time to react before the creature jumped on her. Valeria panicked as she narrowly escaped the wolf's snapping jaws. It was very large, larger than any wolf she had encountered. His fur is as dark as the night. The eyes of the beast shone with an unmatched hunger as it faced her, its teeth were baring menacingly. Her heart beat faster as she stumbled backward, but this wolf was incredibly fast. In an instant, the wolf was directly in front of her. The claws tore into the ground with a heavy thud. The wolf in her moved to take control, but she was unable due to her frame of mind and fear. She could not fight against this wolf alone. Another growl sounded loudly, it was so deep this time. This other growl came from a different wolf. A sudden and a sharp movement caught her eye. The creature's eyes widened in shock as Adolf charged towards it from the shadows. In the twinkle of an eye, his wolf was on the attacking beast, his teeth flashing menacingly as he tackled it to the ground. The loud sounds of their struggle were very high, their growls and their snarls, the thud of their bodies hitting the ground, the fierce clash of teeth and their deadly claws. Valeria stood in a corner paralyzed, her legs trembled as she watched the unfolding battle. Her Adolf fought wildly in his wolf form. He moved so gracefully and very powerfully. Although the wolf that attacked her was also ferocious. She had to act fast. Valeria made frantic efforts to move her legs, but they would not respond. She was unable to look away from the fight. Her thoughts run riot. Why did Adolf come to rescue her? Before Valeria could finish her thoughts, the attacking wolf broke free from Adolf, and lunged at her with a menacing snarl, its jaws aiming directly at her throat. No! Valeria Wolf rose fast, but not fast enough due to the closeness of the beast to her. As soon as the creature's jaws were close to her throat, Adolf collided with the wolf. He let out a murderous roar which sent the animal flying through the air. It was a brutal collision. The wolf rolled through the floor of the forest before it halted. It growled in rage as it fixed its gaze on Adolf, who shielded Valeria protectively with his body that was poised for further attacks. The wolf was baring its teeth at Adolf, ready for another fight, but it was injured so it hesitated. Valeria's heart was racing at a fast pace. She felt Adolf Wolf form beside her. His presence is a reliable shield which she relies on to keep her safe. She desired to hold him for comfort, but she relented due to his rejection earlier on. She hesitated if she could face him. Meanwhile, Adolf's attention still remained on the creature in front of them; his muscles were coiled, and he was ready to spring. Back off this minute, he growled. His voice sounded low, but it was very menacing. The eyes of the wolf blinked, but it stayed still. Valeria’s heart was pounding very loudly as the creature growled back. There was a lot of tension in the air, words that she wanted to tell him eluded her. Suddenly, as fast as it could muster, the creature lunged again, But Adolf moved faster. Adolf Wolf leaped onto the attacking beast, with a fierce snarl, it sank his teeth into its neck. The creature started howling in agony, it was thrashing wildly, but the grip of Adolf was steadfast. Valeria watched the scene with her heart in her mouth. She was shocked at the ferociousness of his wolf, it acted so untamed, so wild. It was as if all the pain, all the… The anger in him had been released at that moment of dread. An instant later, the whole forest was enveloped in silence. The only sound you could hear at that moment was the heavy breathing of the two wolves. Then, at that moment, Adolf's wolf buried its teeth into the throat of the creature. Life ebbed out of the creature as it went limp on the ground. Adolf stood over it, his eyes radiating a fierce rage. He suddenly turned towards Valeria, his wolf’s eyes locked onto hers for some fleeting moments, and for that brief moment, the time seemed to pause. Valeria, he uttered in a low voice that was hoarse and his breath that came out labored. You’re… you’re not safe out here, unless you are with me. Valeria's heart was racing very fast. When she tried to reply to him, she could not utter a word. She did not know the right response immediately or if she would forgive him for rejecting her. She had not finished gathering her thoughts, when there was a rustling in the trees. A shadow shifted in the dark, signaling another presence. Adolf Wolf tensed immediately, it sharply adopted a defensive posture. Then, they both heard a voice which sliced through the heavy silence. Adolf, I am here with you. Valeria's bones got chilled with dread as a figure came out from the shadows. Certainly it was another wolf who had come for their blood.
