As she triedin vain to fight the men off, she managed to knock one of theirheads back with such force that she was convinced for a moment thatshe had killed him. His head came back from the almost impossibleangle that it had been placed in, now minus the hood that he hadworn moments before. He wascompletely bald but Isabelle didn’t notice this; thething that struck her were his eyes. Even now, she would have trouble describing them to anyone, despite the fact that she had thought of not much else, but at thatpoint so many thoughts had come into her head to describe thoseeyes, all of them now gone. The unmaskedman licked his lips and sneered at her horribly as he pushed a wethandkerchief into her face. For a brief moment she couldconcentrate on nothing more than a very strong smell, which wasalmost like bleach. Her nosegot used to the smell in a matter of seconds, although to her itfelt like a lot longer. Her mind swiftly returned to the bald man. He’s on drugs, shethought. He has to be. There was noother rational explanation for it. Rationalexplanation. But thenthe chloroform took effect, andshe knew no more. When she cameback around, the sight ofthe man and his cloaked companions were the first thing she couldthink about. She has been awake for a little while now and is stillin the exact same situation, tied up too tightly to ever hope toescape on her own. She is avery determined woman, however, and this little factoid does notstop her from trying. There is no way that she is going to give up.Gary will be worried sick. She wonders if he has called thepoliceyet. Thethought of Gary is the one thing that keeps her trying toescape, but deep in her mind sheis already thinking that she has seen one of her kidnappers faces. There is a very good chance that she might never get out of herealive. She might never see Gary’s face again, and thethought of that alone made her feel saddened and guilty.
