Broken Promises

chapter six

Rivers POV

It's now Thursday, the day before the dance, and Rose is still in the hospital, but she's stable and awake now.

"Hey beautiful. How are you feeling today?" I ask her as I enter her room after getting some coffee.

"I wanna go home. I'm tired of being here." She says as she sits up.

"I know, hopefully you'll be able to come home today." I say, sitting down beside her. That's when the doctor walks in.

"Well Rose, I think you will be able to leave this afternoon."

"Sweet." She says with a big smile on her face.

"But you have to be careful. Too much stress and you will be right back here and if you feel dizzy or weak you have to sit down right away and take your medication." The doctor says as he hands Rose her dismissal papers.

"Alright, thank you doctor." I say as I shake his hand.

With that, the doctor leaves the room and Rose makes her way to the bathroom to get changed so we can leave the hospital.

"All ready to go?" I ask Rose.

"Yes." She says.

We make our through the hospital and out the doors to my mustang.

"It's still early enough that if you'd like, we could go to school for the rest of the day." I say, helping her into the car and putting our bags into the back seat.

"Sure. School sounds like a good idea. I'll be able to get all my missing assignments." She answered, buckling her seatbelt.

"Okay. Next stop, school."

We get to school and Rose goes to the office to pick up any missing work she had and to give them the doctors note. Then I follow her to take her prescription to the nurse, in case she would need it during the school day.

"I'll see you after school." I say and walk to class.

"Okay." She replies. Then I turn to look back and watched her walk away down the hall.

God, she is so beautiful. I thought to myself.

"Good to see you back in school dude." Tanner says, giving me one of those bro hugs with a slap on the back.

Roses POV

I miss school. I say to myself as I walk through the hallways to class.

"Hey girl. Long time no see." Kailey says as I walk into class and sit next to her.

"Hey." I say pulling out my notebook from my backpack.

"How are you feeling?" Kailey asks.

"I'm okay. A little sore from laying in the hospital bed, but overall I'm doing fine." I say, writing down the notes the teacher is putting on the board. That's when Kelly walks up.

"I saw you with River earlier." She says with a smirk. "And I thought I told you to stay away from him."

"Look Kelly I don't care what you think. River and I are just friends. So you can just back the f**k off." I say and walking out of the class room as the bell rang.

As I started walking, I felt a little bit dizzy, but I ignored it. And the next thing I knew Kelly grabbed my hand.

"Let go of me." I say, starting to get pissed off.

"I'll say it again, stay away from him or you'll regret it." She says with a hard stare.

"And I don't give a s**t what you say, now let go of me." I say, getting my hand out of her grip and walking away.

As i get my hand out of her grip she sees Kyle and Tanner walking towarfs us and she vanishses into thin are and the boys turn their attention and looked at me with very concerned stares.

"Rose what happened? You don't look good." Kyle said

"I...I'm fine." I say, putting a hand on the wall to keep me steady.

"You're not okay. What happened?" Tanner said.

"Kelly happened." Kailey said walking up behind us.

"What did she say? Did she hurt you?" Kyle asked, getting even more concerned.

"No. She just told Rose to stay away from River." She said.

"I...I f...feel dizzy. I think I need to sit down." I say, trying to catch my breath.

That's when Kyle picks me up and takes me into an empty class room. While Tanner pulls out his phone, and as quick as he brought it out, he put it back in his pocket. Next thing I know, River is at the door way looking pissed and worried.

"Well I'm gonna head to class." Kailey says, walking out the door.

"What the hell happened?" he asks, looking around at everyone with a death glare before turning his attention back to me with a softer expression and takes a deep breath.

"But before we get into what happened Rose, I need to calm your breathing. The doctor said you can't get too stressed." River says, making his way over to me and pulls me into a hug.

"River, what are we?" I asked, looking up to meet his blue eyes after pulling away from the hug.

"Why do you ask?" River says. "Because it'd be nice to know what we are." I say, still looking up at him.

"What do you mean?" He asked, curiousity in his voice.

"What I mean is, are we friends, or maybe something more then that?" I ask, not sure what to expect.

That's when he ran a hand though his hair trying to think of what to say next.

"Dude, just be honest with the her." Tanner says, looking bored with the conversation.

"Yeah man. We all know you like her." Says Kyle, putting his arm around Tanners shoulder.

"Okay, just shut up." River says to Tanner and Kyle, then turn his attention back to me.

"I don't think I can be just your friend Rose." He says looking from my eyes down to my lips. And before I know it he leans in and kisses me. After I realize what's happened I start to kiss him back.

"Riv.." I start to say before he cuts me off with another kiss.

"Does that explain what we are princess." He asks with a smile.

"God, get a room you two." Kyle and Tanner say, making gagging noises. That's when I remember that they were still in the room and I start to blush big time.

"Look River, you got to promise me that I won't get hurt." I say with a serious voice.

"I've been hurt before and I don't wanna go through that again." I say, as tears start to fill my eye.

"Hey don't cry baby. I won't hurt you princess." River says with a serious expression.

"Promise?" I say wiping away tears that rolled down my cheeks.

"I, River Alexander Grey, here by promise that I will never hurt you Rose." He says, standing up straight with his hand over his heart.

That's when the bell rang signaling that it was time for the next class to start.

"Well, I gotta get to class." I turn and say climbing off the desk.

"Wait, from now on one of us will have to be by your side at all times to make sure you don't get hurt" River says turning to both Kyle and Tanner.

With that, we all went to class. The rest of the day went by pretty fast and after the last bell rang, with one of the boys by my side, I meet up with Kailey by her locker and we all head out to the parking lot.

"River kissed me." I tell her, thinking back to the kiss.

"He what?" She says, looking very shocked.

"You heard me." I say, with a blush starting to form on my cheeks.

"He kissed her and they stared to grind on each other." Says Kyle.

"What we did not. All we did was kiss." I say smacking Kyle in the arm.

"Ouch girl that hurt." He says, rubbing his arm.

"Get beat up by a girl again?" Asks Tanner, who just walked up and put a hand on Kyles shoulder.

"No." Kyle says. "Who's up for the mall?" Kailey asks.

"Me." I say. I need a new outfit for the dance tomorrow night.

We all walk out the door of the school to see a group of guys standing around, looking for trouble.

"Girls, get back into the school now." Says Kyle with a very serious and deadly tone.

We start walking back to the school when we get stopped by two more guys.

"Shit." Says Tanner under his breath. Thats when River appears.

"Get the hell away from her!" He says coming closer to us.

"River?" I say, a scared look in my eyes as one of the guys grab me. Thats when the three boys all pull out guns.

"Let her go." River says in a deathly tone. "Or else s**t's gonna get ugly."

"Don't get your panties in a twist. We're just here to give you a message." Says the guy behind me.

That's when I start to feel a little dizzy again and start to my lose my balance and end up falling out of the guys grip and onto the ground.
