Chapter Six Part Two. I let out a long sigh; two nights went quickly, and I am supposed to be checking out this morning, but I am going to see if I can book another week here. I made a decision in the early hours of the morning when my rushing mind refused to allow me to sleep. I am not going back to live with my parents. I need to find myself, and I am not going to do that in a couple of nights. Amy had left me yesterday evening; she had something to do at a club she visits, and the space afforded me some time to think about my life. I need to visit a local estate agent about renting a flat. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just affordable until I can find some work, to boost my income. I know I have upwards of fifty thousand in my bank account, thanks to my allowance from my grandfather, and some inheritance he gave me ‘early’; the rest I will get when he passes. Not that I want to think about that. I love my granddaddy; he has always been in my corner and offered me all the love and support I felt was missing from my parents. The money I have stashed away is a healthy amount for anybody, but it will not last forever. I also need to open the new account I was supposed to open the day after my birthday, but with everything going on, I clean forgot about it. Once I have secured a place to live, I will return home and inform my parents in the correct way. But until then, I will remain here. I like the peace and quiet. After Amy. left, I did some more work on the butterfly, but thinking of it more as a tattoo than just a pretty picture which could be turned into one. I have to admit; it is coming along nicely. I head down to reception, smiling at the receptionist. “Good morning. I would like to keep my room for another week, if at all possible, please,” I inform the woman behind the desk who had originally checked me in. “Of course. I will need to do it as a separate booking, so I will close off this tab now, then book you in from scratch,” she tells me. Once again, she taps furiously with her fingers on the computer, then looks up at me with a smile. “Okay, so it was 150 pounds per night, then there is your room service on top of that, so the amount comes to 475. With your 140 deposit you have a balance of 335,” she tells me. I nod my head, handing over my debit card, and she swipes the card, and turns the machine toward me to enter my pin. I put in the four numbers, and hand her the machine back, as she looks at the screen a small frown forming on her face. “I am sorry, that has declined,” she said, as I look at her confused. “No, there is a lot of money in there,” I tell her. That is not possible, as I mentioned, I have thousands in that account. “I will try again,” she smiles, and repeats the action only for the same frown forming on her face. “Sorry. Do you have another card?” she asks. “Erm, yeah,” I tell her, digging out my credit card which was given to me for emergencies by my father, one I really did not wish to use, as utilizing his money defeats the object of me living my own life. To be honest, I have never used it, I have always wanted to sustain myself, rather than rely on his money. I hand her the card, and once again she shakes her head. “Declined,” she states, as I shake my head in dismay. “Does it give a reason?” I ask. The receptionist looks at me, then leans forward to whisper to me. “They both say account closed,” she states, as I widen my eyes in horror. I did not close my account, which means the only other people who could was my mother or my father. She has taken my money and closed my accounts! “I am sorry. Please, give me a moment,” I state, I could call granddad, but honestly, I do not want to drag him into this mess, his relationship with my father is not the closest to have with your son at the best of times. My granddaddy was a successful business man, before he retired, but other than that, he is polar opposite to my father, and my mother. I think about who could possibly help me, and then call Amy, the only person who knows where I am, because I am fully aware the reason my mother has done this is to make me go crawling back to her, and under her control once more. My cousin answers the phone, as I blurt out what is happening, big sobs erupting from my throat. “That f*****g b***h. I need to tell Kit where you are, don’t worry, he will sort it,” my cousin states, when I hear the voice of her brother echo in my ears. “Mel, stay where you are, I will come get you. Now, pass me to the receptionist. Don’t worry, leave this with me, I will sort it out,” he states, as I sob once more, then hand the phone to the lady behind the reception desk. She listens, typing in something into her computer, before, smiling up at me, mouthing ‘paid’ to me, and handing me the phone back. I breathe a sigh of relief, yet still hot tears of betrayal fall onto my cheeks. “Mel, go pack up your s**t. Your mother will have a notification of where you are from the bank. I am coming to get you. You are not f*****g going back there, she has done this deliberately, the f*****g arsehole,” he tells me, before hanging up the call, as I do exactly what he tells me, because obeying is second nature to me.
