Nothing had gone as planned, Elenze thought to himself as his eyes flapped towards the people who were unharmed, and he assumed that there were two possibilities.
One, the poison might not have been strong enough to kill those people or maybe it will take a while to stimulate.
Second option on the other hand, made Elenze gulp however.
Cause that option meant one thing, the alcohol those demons were currently drinking isn't same as the one they've poisoned; but how can that be? Elenze thought it doesn't make sense, considering no one other than Sebastian and himself knew the fact that those beverages were drugged to begin with.
He shook his head and squeezed his eyes shut.
"Let's leave for now, and I'll admit failure. The only things we have to worry about at the moment are our lives." he revised the ugly grin his parents would send him after all his failures, they'll laugh at his face, and that angered Elenze to the core since there was nothing more important than his pride for him.
Maybe few years ago, there was something that he cared for more than anything. But now, it was only him and himself, that's it.
Sebastian strode after Elenze who started running, and the blonde punched a window making shards of glass fall down, the sound making Sebastian jolt and hold his ears.
"We'll climb up to the parapet," Elenze proclaimed and held the pane, trying his best not to fall from the immense height. Sebastian struggled to control his breathing, wondering how the f**k this guy could be only eighteen years old while being this fearless.
The pallid haired male finally understood, Elenze might be a spoiled brat, but that doesn't mean he's not a warrior with potential-
"You two!" Sebastian gasped, snapping his head towards the sight of a young looking man, with captivating Ruby eyes and dark Amber hair. His pale skin was glistening in the hallway, his hair tousled messily and lips swollen- looking as if he had made out with someone just a little before.
In other words, Cassius, whose eyes widened after seeing Elenze almost falling down the building in alarm because of his sudden intrude, ran to the window almost instantly. After seeing how a vampire was strolling up to them, Sebastian got into a defense position, ignoring how Elenze screeched with his face perpendicular to the ground that was hundreds of feet away, while his bum was raised up in the air.
"He's going to fall!" Cassius panicked and nudged Sebastian out of him, he grabbed the blonde by his small thighs and pulled him back into the castle, ignoring the protests of the person in question, who kept on yelling incoherent words accompanied with, "You waltard dog! I have to get out of here!"
But Cassius couldn't let someone die, no, not in front of him. Even if it's an enemy, he won't let anyone die. Call him dumb, naive, stupid or anything you want, but he abided by his own norms, and there was no way he was going to let Elenze fall down a tall tower of a giant castle.
Yet that didn't mean Elenze appreciated being manhandled by a goddamn dark creature.
"Get off!" said the blonde with a frustrated huff, kicking Cassius in the stomach who winced but smiled in return.
"I finally found you." Cassius grinned as Elenze scowled, both in their own little world to even mind how footsteps of dozens of people echoed and Sebastian froze to his feet, not having the courage to run away or warn his partner in crime while staring wide eyed at the demons who cornered them, trapped them, and blocked all of their paths.
But Elenze and Cassius, were still clueless.
"What do you mean, you found me?", Elenze mocked and kept eye contact with Cassius, "What am I? Your Cinderella?" he further piped, seeing the way the brunette vampire resting on top of him, smiled even wider at that.
Cassius wanted to go with the flow, yet before he could muse something out, his body tensed and his head perked up, his death wishes flashing before his eyes once the sight of many many people greeted his view, including his cousin who walked up to the scene in confusion and Athan, who quickly knelt beside Cassius with his expression worried.
"Oh love, you didn't have to do this.. When did I ask you to catch him for me, although that has been my wish all along!" Athan sighed dramatically, and Cassius couldn't help but cringe at the absurd situation- and by the corner of his eye, he saw how Sebastian was getting tied up and also realised how Elenze was struggling to get out of here.
Cassius's eyes flickered to Elenze, "You." he listened as Elenze's voice went an octave lower, deeper, coated with anger and rage- which were pretty much the same thing but oh well, while his emerald blue eyes took in Athan's image, who didn't even bother to look at him.
"I didn't know you loved me this much darling," Athan smiled wide and kissed the back of Cassius's palm as Cassius felt his body go numb, and everything blurred, he couldn't even decipher exactly when Elenze was also grabbed by his thin arm and tied with thick pieces of rope- Cassius had spaced out, his mind foggy and slowly remembering what his cousin had said.
"I hope you won't trust people who shouldn't be trusted, Cassius." the sentence echoed, and everything happened in a split second, with Cassius jerking his hand away from Athan's grasp and the sound of Elenze's yelling becoming more and more clear to his ears.
"How dare you! How dare you do this!!" the blonde yelled at the raven haired demon, whose only centre of attention turned out to be Cassius and nobody else.
"Darling, Can't you see?" Athan chuckled, "We've captured the archangel, the cruel monster! You did it!"
"N-no." Cassius looked at Richard for help, and the said vampire only shrugged. But the vampire king was out of it, lost. He forced in the fact that he had just caught an angel- no, the archangel into his dazed head as he looked back at Athan, who stared at him through long eyelashes and pouty lips.
"What's wrong little vampy? Did that monster do something to you?" the older king faked empathy and held Cassius's quivering shoulders, their eyes met, and the brunette saw how Athan was smirking as the nobles of both the vampire clan and the demon clan looked over at him for answers. Elenze's voice was fading, and there was a faint sound of someone sniffling- namely Sebastian, that had Cassius feeling unwell.
Athan pressed his palm on Cassius's forehead, "You've heated up darling." he gasped after whisking his hand off, Cassius looked at him, angered, disappointed but most importantly, heart broken.
He had never expected for the first person he would get a crush on, to be someone this f****d up. If only he had listened to the rumors, but that's not the thing here. The real problem was that now he had finally realised what kind of an i***t he has been. The only reason he signed this alliance was because he had to get help for defeating the twisted creatures named angels, yet Cassius now knew..
He had come to the wrong side, choosing Athan was a bad idea. And now he had no way out of this, cause it was his fault after all.
He was the one who trapped his own self in a maze.
He was the one who messed up.
All along.
