“First a sword wielding lunatic and now this," Zane muttered as he continued to apply pressure to the pedal.
“What 'were' those things?"
“Not human."
“I figured as much, what did they want?"
“I have a couple of guesses…"
“Do you think they were specifically after you?"
Zane nodded. “It's too much of a coincidence that you drop into my life and suddenly monsters begin appearing out of thin air."
“Where are we going?"
Zane hesitated, his mind falling to the one being who might be able to help them. It was a chance he'd have to take, even though the journey would be grueling.
“I'll take you home first. It's me they are after. You should get as far away from me as possible."
She was already shaking her head with denial. “We're in this together."
