The next week went by and still no word from either of her parents. I was beginning to worry. This didn't sit right with me so I reached out to Athena. The first call rang until voicemail picked up. I called right back, and this time Athena answered. “Yeah, Athena, where are you?” It got real quiet. “I’m in Georgia.” I almost lost my s**t. “You’re in Georgia?! What about Marie?? When are you coming back?” I shouted as the three kids turned to look at me. “I can't come back yet. I'm not ready to raise her alone.” Looking at the kids I covered my mouth and whispered yelled into the phone. “So you just pawn your daughter off on me. Without even talking to me about it. I thought we were friends?” I couldn't believe what she said to me. “We are… that's why you have her. I just need more time?”
