‘… did I just get ignored again?? What the hęck is happening?? Why are they all ignoring me??’ Funke found herself asking as she watched the two girls heading towards their rooms. She remembered Mr Kang’s words and she sighed. ‘Maybe because I’m new here truly. Once I settle down with them, they might like me.’ She said in her mind, as she focused on her phone. One thing you need to know about Funke, she’s a phone freak. She can operate phone for the whole of Africa. “Anyways, those two really look so much alike… maybe they’re twin sisters.” Funke said as she turned back to look at the girls rooms again, hoping to see them coming towards her, but it’s just a wish. She was still operating her phone when her mum’s call came in. “Oh… I forgot to call to tell them that I landed safely.” She said before answering the call. “Mum. I’m sorry, I was just about to call you.” She said. “Did you just got there or you forgot to call??” Mrs Thomas asked over the phone. “Actually Mum… I forgot to call.” She said and bit her lower lip, getting ready to get scolded for not calling earlier. Another thing you need to know about her, she doesn’t know how to lie. She would tell a lie, but you’ll surely know that she lied. “Otún ti bèrè àbí?? (You’ve started again right??) I clearly told you to call when you get there, but you forgot?? Is this how you’ll forget about us??” Mrs Thomas asked, almost yelling. “I’m sorry Mum. You know I can never forget about you and Dad. I just forget to call you to tell you about my safe arrival. I’m so sorry Mum.” Funke pleaded and Mrs Thomas sighed. “Anyways, how about the house your dad asked them to arrange for you?? Do you like it??” She asked. “Yes Mum. It’s amazing! I heard you told them to keep the interior deco in blue.” Funke said. “Yes. Or you don’t like it??” Mrs Thomas asked, and Funke smiled. “Are you kidding me Mum?? I don’t like it. I love it! It’s great!” She said. “Okay, glad you like it. I’ll tell your dad that you arrived there safely. Be a good girl, and always remember the child of whom you are, okay??” “Sure Mum. Bye! I’m missing you already.” She pouted, and her Mum chuckled. “I miss you too. Just face your studies okay??” “Alright Mum. Take care.” “Yeah bye.” and she hung up. She resumed operating her phone but she stopped when she suddenly heard some footsteps behind her. She looked away from the phone and looked back to see one of the girls coming towards her, actually, she’s tiptoeing towards her. “Shhhh…” The girl said with her index finger on her lips, signalling to Funke to keep quiet. Funke took her lips in so as not to laugh. She’s a laugh freak and she laughs alot. The girl got to her and sat beside her quietly. “Hi. I’m Jae-kyung. Heard you’re from the Western part of Nigeria.” The girl said with a smile, and Funke also smiled. “Yes. I’m from the Yoruba tribe and my name is Funke.” Funke said back and the girl looked at her from head to toe. “You’re cute. I love your gap-teeth.” Jae-kyung said and Funke blushed. “Thank you. You’re also cute… by the way, is that second girl perhaps your twin sister??” Funke asked. “Oh Ju-kyung. Yes, we’re twin sisters. We really look so much alike so you might not be able to tell us apart, but I’ll tell you how you can recognize us… take a look at this mark.” Jae-kyung said as she pointed at her neck, she has a black mark. “With this, you should be able to tell us apart. She doesn’t have it, and she’s Ju-kyung while I’m Jae-kyung, don’t forget.” Jae-kyung said, and Funke nodded with a smile. “Okay. But why did you two not reply to my greetings the other time??” Funke asked, and Jae-kyung heaved a heavy sigh. “Ju-kyung is one hęll of a cold girl. She’s quiet and doesn’t really associate with anyone aside me and our younger sister. Also, the only two guys she talk to is her boyfriend, Soo-oh and our half brother, Min-ho. Aside the four of us, she doesn’t associate with any other people.” Jae-kyung explained. “Then why didn’t you respond to my greetings then?? You should have replied, even if she won’t.” Funke said. “Well, my twin doesn’t really like it when I do something different from hers. She really wants the closest people in her life to do what she wants. She chooses the cloth I wear, the food I eat, people I can talk to, and what I can say. Just accept her that way. She’s always like that.” Jae-kyung replied, and Funke smiled. “It’s okay. Now I know the difference between you two. She’s quiet and you’re lively. But you’re both beautiful.” She said. “Would you like to take a look round the school??” Jae-kyung asked, and Funke’s face lit up. “Oh yes. Let’s go.” Funke said and they both stood up. “Sure.” Jae-kyung nodded as they both walked quietly out of the apartment. ✰
