Chapter 7
“Give me fifty laps!” Professor Meldon yelled at us from his spot in the chair. We were running laps today because Prof. Meldon was subbing for Mrs. Madigan. He decided that we needed to exercise and brought us to the walking track.
“I’m getting tired,” Vellity huffed out when we were on our 10th lap. I nodded and slowed to a stop. Running was not my forte.
“I know I wish he would just let us rest.”
“Girls if you have time to talk, you have time to finish these laps. Get to it!” Prof. Meldon barked.
I sighed and started running beside Elowen and Vellity. Orson was already ahead of most of us.
I can’t wait for this day to end.

“I told you to train more!” my dad yelled through the phone. “You’ll never be good enough if you can’t progress as well as your classmates.”
I held the phone to my ear and took a deep breath. My dad was one way of making my sanity snap. I am training more and I am also ahead of most of my classmates.
“Dad, calm down, I have progressed a lot and Wreath told me I have progressed more than any of his other pupils!”
“I want you to be the strongest person out there, you’re carrying my family’s name above your head!”
“Quit pressuring me to be the best when not even you were the best!”
At my statement my dad quit ranting. All I could hear was him breathing on the other side of the phone. Ok, maybe I shouldn’t have said that but it was the truth.
Dad let out a cough. “We’ll continue this talk later when you actually want to be cooperative.”
The line was cut after that and I was left fuming at his statement. I can’t believe he thought I wasn’t being cooperative. I’m at this school because he told me to be here. And, being the good child I am, I came here, but that wasn’t enough for him! I am through with this.
The door to my room creaked open and I turned to see Elowen and Vellity make their way inside. Vellity gave me a sympathetic look.
“So...that was your dad on the phone?”
“He seems like a douche to me,” Elowen states bluntly.
“Elowen! You just can’t say that about someone's dad!”
“No, it’s ok, he can be like that sometimes,” I looked down at my phone and sat down on the bed.
Vellity and Elowen came and sat beside me. Elowen threw her arms around me and pulled me into a hug.
“I know it can be hard sometimes, but I think you’re doing great,” Elowen squeezed me tighter to her. I laid my head against her shoulder and sighed. It was great to have friends.
Vellity reached out to pat my shoulder. “Yeah! You’ll be able to show your dad how strong you’ve gotten soon! And we’re here for you no matter what.”
“Yeah,” I said. “And guys? Thanks.”
