Kemi said it the second Bianca picked up, no hello, straight into it, the way she only did when something mattered enough to skip the small talk.

Left three years ago, sudden, no notice period, no goodbye party, nothing.” Kemi’s voice had the careful evenness of someone reading from notes she’d scribbled fast. “Amara says the story at the time was a family emergency. But her friend who worked reception says Rosalind cried in the stairwell for a week straight before she quit, and nobody in that building believed the family emergency for one single day.”
