“Help!”
Gulp.
“Help!”
Splash.
“Help!”
A voice kept screaming out. Tyrek could hear the voice from a distance.
He just got off from work and was taking a walk back home when he heard incessant screams.
Worried, he inched closer to where the voice had been coming from, and as he got closer, the Ridgewood Lake came into view.
A lot of people were gathered there, mostly omegas, and it looked like they were trying to help somebody by their body language, but in reality, none of them got into the lake.
When he finally reached the lake, there was a boy in it, he looked like he was 7-9 years, give or take. He was splashing all over the place and it looked like he was drowning.
He. Was. Drowning.
Immediately he realized it, he jumped right into the lake, even though his swimming skills weren’t so great.
He struggled to propel his body against the water, putting so much effort into swimming to save the boy that was drowning.
He finally made it to the boy, grabbed him and tried swimming back to the shore.
When he got closer to shore, a redhead gathered some omegas to hold a trunk out for him, so he could use it instead of struggling against the water.
They were able to help him out of the lake.
While this was happening, a convoy of 5 luxurious cars, ranging from Mercedes Benz to Range Rovers and BMWs arrived at the lake’s shore.
Tyrek wasn’t bothered about the attention he had garnered or the convoy that just arrived the scene.
The boy looked like he had swallowed a lot of water, as his face was turning blue.
Tyrek’s only concern was to save the boy.
He checked the boy’s airways to see if the boy had swallowed anything that could block it, so he could clear his airways before beginning CPR on him.
His airways were clear.
Tyrek positioned his fingers on the boy’s chest, and began compressions, with his palms pressing down on his chest rhythmically.
He couldn’t die.
He wouldn’t let him die.
Tyrek continued with the compressions while everybody waited with bated breaths for the outcome.
After what felt like an eternity, the boy’s chest began to rise and fall, then he coughed up the water he had swallowed, before his eyes fluttered open.
Tyrek let out a sigh of relief he didn’t realize he was holding.
Leo suddenly said,
[Healing Touch Level 1 unlocked, Scan Level 1 unlocked.]
That was the second time Leo said something like that during the day, but he couldn’t ask Leo what he was on about yet, because there was a crowd around him.
The crowd relaxed and then a man, in his 60s emerged from the crowd, almost crying.
“Kael, my boy! Are you okay? We need to get you to a hospital immediately.”
“I’m fine, grandpa.” Kael’s response sounded weak.
“Caspian? Oakley?” He called out, and two guards from the Range Rover emerged,
“Take Kael to the nearest hospital and make sure he is given the utmost care.”
With that, he waved them off and they carried Kael into the car, before zooming off.
The crowd had started to disperse already.
Tyrek was about to leave when the old man called his attention,
“Thank you for saving my grandson’s life. He’s always running away and getting into trouble, but this time around, it would’ve been fatal, had you not arrived in time”.
“It’s no problem, sir. You’re welcome.”
Tyrek responded with a smile plastered on his face.
The old man signaled towards one of the guards and the guard brought a cheque book to him.
After scribbling, he turned to Tyrek and said, “Please accept this as a token of my gratitude for rescuing my grandson.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to decline your offer, sir. Your gratitude speaks volumes already, plus I was happy to help the little boy, so it’s no big deal.”
“But I insist.”
“I really appreciate, but no, thank you, sir.”
“If you’re not going to accept my token, at least, stop calling me sir. You’re making me feel older than I look.” The old man said, and they shared a laugh.
“I’m Mr. Jaxar, and you are?”
“I’m Tyrek, sir… sorry, Mr Jaxar.” Tyrek laughed nervously.
“See! You’re getting the hang of it already.”
They chuckled.
“It was nice meeting you, Mr. Tyrek.” The old man stretched his hand to bid Tyrek farewell, and Tyrek took it in a handshake.
“The pleasure is all mine, sii… Mr. Jaxar.”
Mr. Jaxar scrunched his eyebrows at him and smiled.
Before Tyrek let go of his hands, he noticed the stress lines on the old man’s forehead and his overall demeanor.
The old man looked okay on the outside, but as Tyrek looked a little deeper, he noticed that there seemed to be some discomfort in his gait.
“Mr. Jaxar?”
“Yes, son.”
“I don’t mean to be intrusive or anything, but are you doing okay? Health-wise I mean.” Tyrek asked, genuinely curious.
Mr. Jaxar steadied his gaze on Tyrek,
“Why do you ask?”
“I mean, you look perfectly fine physically, but it seems like you’re suffering from a strange illness that only comes up at weird times, and from my point of view, it looks like it’s developing into fatal insomnia.”
Tyrek wanted to facepalm himself for the way he blurted out his thoughts without considering how Mr. Jaxar would feel if his hunch was false.
But it was already too late.
His thoughts were out there.
“Interesting observation. It might interest you to know that I feel strange sometimes at night, so you might just be right.” Mr. Jaxar concurred without having any negative feelings towards Tyrek.
Tyrek’s heart stopped pounding in his chest, hearing Mr. Jaxar’s response and realizing that he didn’t get offended.
“If that is the case, I’d suggest you get it checked as soon as possible.”
“I will do just that. For a student doctor, you’re way up in your league.” Mr. Jaxar observed.
Tyrek’s eyes widened in curiosity, “how did?”
Mr. Jaxar cut in and pointed towards Tyrek’s bag that he had thrown on the floor before he saved the boy. His scrubs were peeking out.
He made an O with his mouth and smiled.
“Thank you, Mr. Jaxar. I’d better get going. It was nice meeting you.”
“You take care, boy.”
And with that, Tyrek walked away.
The old man stood there. He seemed bamboozled.
“How was he able to detect what I’m suffering from, through a handshake?” Mr. Jaxar muttered under his breath as he headed for his car.
He had been to numerous top hospitals, carried out numerous tests and consulted with doctors that had mind-blowing track records, but none of them seemed to detect his illness, or even figure out why his wolf almost went feral, a couple of times at night.
That was before Tyrek.
Tyrek was different. He spotted the illness after only one glance.
Amazing.
‘Who could this Tyrek be?’ he thought.
He got to the car and his guards opened it up for him to get in.
Then he knocked on the glass separating the driver from him at the backseat,
“Rowan, get me everything you can on a student doctor. His name is Tyrek.”
