A Second Chance Mate

Chapter 4-The Heat

Lexi’s Pov

I kept replaying his words in my room, “I will always protect you.” I wasn’t sure if that meant he would accept me. I have always feared Alpha Dominic because of the stories I have heard about him. But how he stood up for me made me think there was a side to him that no one knew about. I wasn’t sure, but I wanted to find out why he did what he did for me.

“Athena,” I called to my wolf.

“I’m here,” she said to me.

“What should I do?” I asked her.

“He is our mate. It would be best if you gave them a chance,” she responded.

“How could you trust them so easily?”

“I know that we were hurt when we were rejected, but the moon Goddess chose to bring us them as our second chance mate, and we should trust in her,” she said. I thought about that for a moment. Why would the moon Goddess give me another Alpha as my second chance mate?

“But why him?” I asked her.

“I have told you we are special,” she replied.

“Yeah, but I don’t see how special I am.”

“You will see when it is time to,” was the last thing she said to me before she retreated into the back of my mind.

I didn’t see how Athena could think I was unique in any way. I was just a girl nobody wanted around, someone they used as their punching bag. Get some sleep.

He grabbed me, pulling me closer to him, his gaze never leaving me. He moved his hand from around me to behind my head, and then his lips met mine in a gentle kiss. Feeling his soft lips on mine, I ran my fingers through his hair and parted my lips to give him access. He pushed me up against the wall, pressing his body against mine while deepening the kiss. He removed my nightshirt, exposing my breasts. Continuing to kiss me, he moved his hand to cup my breast. I moaned at his touch; I could feel my panties getting wet with my arousal. He gently trailed kisses down my neck until he reached my breasts, taking them into his mouth. He began to circle his tongue around my hardened n****e slowly.

“Oh, Dominic,” I moaned his name as I felt him growing hard.

I woke up hot and sweating from the vivid dream I had. I went and turned on my fan and sat in front of it to try and cool myself off. I was burning up. I looked at the clock to see what it was—five in the morning. I was thankful I had a bathroom in my room, so I went and drew a cold bath to relieve my burning body. I moaned as the cold water hit my body. I heard knocking on the front door, and I assumed my father had answered it because footsteps were coming up the stairs the next thing I knew. When my bedroom door opened, I exited the bath and wrapped a towel around my body. I locked the bathroom door, not wanting whoever was in my room to come into the bathroom. I heard footsteps approaching the bathroom, and I held my breath, trying not to make a sound. My body was still burning so much, and I wanted to touch myself to see if that would help. The handle on the bathroom door moved as the person tried to get in. I could tell it was a male, not my father, but someone else. My body wanted to open the door and f**k whoever was on the other side, but I was not going to be like that. I was stronger than that. The guy pounded on the door, and I hoped it would hold up, but it didn't. The door flew open, and standing there was a man I had never seen before. The man was of average height and build; I could tell his wolf was close to the surface because his eyes glowed. The man entered the bathroom, coming straight at me; he grabbed my legs and pulled me to him, laying me on my back. Before I knew it, he was on top of me, trying to touch me. I wanted to fight him off but was weak from the burning sensation. I closed my eyes, fearing what was coming next, but he was thrown off me the next thing I knew.

Dominic’s Pov

I was driving to her house. I wanted to see her, and I couldn’t wait any longer. When I got there, I smelled her. She was in heat, but there was also the smell of a male, and this scent I recognized. One of the unmated males came with us to the winter ball. Aztec tried to fight to the surface, but I kept him at bay. I was just as furious as he was that another man was with our mate while she was in heat. I ran up her house's steps and noticed the door was broken open. I raced into the house and followed the scent of my mate. When I got there, the man was on top of Lexi, trying to touch her; I growled and grabbed the son of a b***h, and threw him out of the bathroom. He was trying to fight his way back in, swinging his fists at me, trying to punch me, but I was faster than him and easily dodged them. Aztec, for a brief moment, surfaces and lands one punch to the guy's jaw, knocking him onto his ass hard. “Stop,” I commanded in my alpha voice, and he tilted his head, reviling his neck in submission. “You will go back to our pack right now,” I said, still using my Alpha command on him. He stood and left the room, doing as I had told him to. I turned and looked at my mate; she was still lying on the floor of the bathroom, moaning and rubbing her hands on her body. I went to her, kneeling at her side. She was sweating and burning from the heat. I wished I could help her but would not take her until she told me to do so with a clear head.

“Dominic,” she moaned my name.

“I’m here, Lexi,” I told her, moving the strand of hair off her face.

“I want you,” she moaned, grabbing my shirt and pulling me to her.

"Not like this," I said, moving her hand.

I picked her up, walked her over to her bed, and laid her down. I kissed her forehead and left her room. I stood by the door to make sure nobody would enter again uninvited.

"We should be there helping our mate," Aztec growled at me.

"Not like this, we can't," I responded.

"Why not? She belongs with us. We need to help her," he snarled.

"She is scared of me, and if we do anything now when she is in this haze, she will hate us forever," I explained to him.

He knew I was right and retreated into the back of my mind.

In the following days of Lexi's heat, I stood outside her bedroom door, only entering to give her an ice bath, which subsided the burning and allowed her to relax. I had met her father, but only for a moment. He glared at me but said nothing. I had my Bata bring me food and ice when needed. He had found his mate at the ball and marked her that same night, so he was happy to do what I needed of him. On the last night of her heat, I decided it was time to return to my hotel room and get cleaned up, and I would return tomorrow. I had Grant extend my stay so that I could get to know Lexi better and then bring her back to my pack as my Luna.
