Chapter 6

(Euan’s P.O.V) Waking up this morning, I couldn’t help the slightly giddy feeling of interrogating my first rogue. That makes me sound like a psycho, but I don’t really care, we needed to get to the bottom of why the rogues are once again coming into the kingdom and targeting our pack. My father had called the packs, werebear sleuths, werecat prides, and dragon dens within the kingdoms, asking if there had been any rogue attacks on them. Only the Alpha’s that border the Rogue Lands stated that they saw rogues crossing into the kingdom, they didn’t want to engage them if there was no threat. These packs and sleuths that border the Rogue Lands were smaller and had fierce warriors, but a battle with rogues would pretty much decimate their people. They had tried calling my father, but he had been in and out of meetings, and the attack happened so quickly that he hadn’t had the chance to check his messages. So, other than those packs and sleuths, no one saw the rogues, which means they targeted us specifically. “BREAKFAST EVERYONE!” My mother shouts from the kitchen. I dress quickly, in just a pair of sweats, Nike’s, and a t-shirt, I make my way downstairs to eat the bomb ass breakfast I know my mama cooked. According to my dad, when they first met, mom didn’t know how to cook, and he was scared for his safety and well-being when she started. I know mom has the gift of being able to hear our conversations with our wolves, so my dad told me that my wolf and I will need to keep our comments to ourselves if mom makes something that turns out to be bad. That won’t happen though. Mom is a great cook now. I quickly eat breakfast with my siblings, ignoring their superficial conversations, and focusing on the ways I would torture the rogues. Dad walks in right as I’m finishing up my breakfast. “Hey princess, I think we’re going to be awhile. Don’t count on us for dinner, okay?” Dad says, before kissing mom on her temple. I grab my plate from the table, and put it in the sink, before turning to my mom and kissing her cheek. “You be careful. Listen to your father and Killian.” She says sternly. “I’m always careful, mom,” I say, smirking. “Your eyes should be brown with how full of s**t you are.” She says with a laugh. I chuckle and shake my head, before walking out of the kitchen with my dad. We jump in his car and make our way to the dungeons near our portal house that we have for intra-realm travel. We parked and saw that Killian and my future Royal Beta, Owen, were standing at the entrance in deep discussion. “…maintain your temper. No matter what the rogues may say.” “Ah, the talk.” My father laughs. “Gotta make sure he understands, this hot head has quite the temper when he wants.” Owen scowls at Killian. “If we are done discussing my temper, I would like to go interrogate the rogues now.” Owen huffs before stalking to the entrance. “You do realize you can’t get in without our fingerprints, right?” Killian chuckles. Owen hangs his head and lets out a prolonged sigh as Killian walks to the fingerprint pad and places his palm against it. The door to the dungeons opens and the foul smell of rogue hits my nose. “Well, that’s…pungent,” I say, as we walk inside and make our way down the stairs. A warrior brings one of the rogues out of his cell, shackled in silver, being led to the open area at the back of the dungeon. The warrior attaches his shackles to chains that are hanging from the ceiling, making his arms stretch above his head. “Let’s get to business, shall we?” My father says. “I’m not going to say anything.” The rogue spits out. “That’s what they all say,” Killian chuckles. Killian walks over to a table off to the side of the room which had a number of implements on it: silver knives, throwing stars, whips of all kinds, needles full of wolfsbane, and a…cactus? “Why the hell is there a cactus?” I ask. “Your mother.” My dad says. I look at him with obvious questions in my eyes. “She likes to tell people to go deep throat a cactus or to sit on a cactus when they piss her off, so we always have a cactus available to her when she does interrogations.” I couldn’t help but laugh. I’ve heard my mother say that multiple times, not just to my dad but to Killian and their Royal Gamma, Cormac. Killian picks up the silver knife, walks back to the rogue, and presses the blade to his exposed skin. The rogue tries to keep the pain off of his face, but we can see the pain in his eyes. “So, why are you rogues coming onto our pack territory?” Killian asks. “f**k you!” The rogue grits out. Killian then slashes the knife down on the rogue’s shoulder, cutting through the skin and muscle. The rogue can’t hold back the scream of pain, and it shakes the dungeon, causing dust to fall from the ceiling. “Why are you coming onto MY pack territory?” My father asks, having just picked up the syringe of wolfsbane. The knife wound may hurt, but wolfsbane is something that will feel like a thousand suns burning through your skin, roasting your skin from the inside out. The rogue casts a weary glance at the syringe my father is holding in his hand. “There’s…a…girl.” He says. “There are lots of girls here in this pack, you’ll need to be a little more specific,” I say. “She’s an equal parts hybrid. As much werewolf as she is Siren.” He coughs. My neck snaps up, locking eyes with my father, Killian, and Owen. “What’s her name?” Owen asks, whispering. A twisted and mad-looking grin spreads across the rogue’s face before he says the name that has us all rearing back. “Juniper.” Killian roars and lunges for the rogue’s neck, it takes all three of us to hold him back, as the rogue cackles in the most cliché evil villain way possible. “What do you need Juniper for?” I growl. “Now little Alpha King, that’s not any of your business.” He chuckles. It’s my turn to have a little fun, so taking a page out of my mother’s book, I grab the cactus and shove it down the rogue’s throat. He gags, splutters, and screams around the prickly little bastard before I rip it out, making sure to tear as much of his esophagus as possible. He screams in agony as the glochids, or the short little prickles, lodge in his throat. “What do you want with Juniper!?” I shout again. He doesn’t answer. I can hear scuffling behind me, my father issuing a Royal command to Killian and Owen to stay where they are. My father places a hand on my shoulder before walking toward the rogue and plunging the syringe of wolfsbane into his neck. The rogue roars out in pain before his head lolls forward onto his chest and he passes out. My mind is reeling, and I know the same can be said for the other men in the room. Why do they want Juniper?
