Chapter 14

(Euan’s P.O.V)

2 years later:

Today is Juniper’s 18th birthday, and she’ll finally know that we’re mates! It seems like forever ago when I asked her to be my girlfriend and I had to come clean to Killian that Juniper was my mate. When he found me kissing Juniper, he and his wolf, Titan, were PISSED that I was touching their daughter. When I mind linked him telling him what Junie was to me, he immediately softened and gave his permission for me to date her through the mind link. Since then, we’ve gone on dates pretty much every weekend. I’ve been able to kiss her whenever I want, and I have a feeling that things at school have been a lot better for her since she’s my girlfriend. At least I know that Grant Howard, the little weasel, has left her alone. I have the perfect present for her today. I’m proposing during our birthday date. We still haven’t gotten intimate, because I wanted to wait until she was 18 and knew we were mates.

I’m back at the jewelry store that Bailey owns with my mom and Juniper’s mom, Florence, picking out her engagement ring.

“You and Juniper getting engaged!? Are you choosing her as your mate?” Bailey asks.

“She’s my mate, you can’t tell ANYONE,” I say, using my Royal command.

Bailey squeals in excitement before rounding the counter and hugging me tightly.

“Oh, my Goddess! I knew it! I knew that you two were going to be together forever!” She squeals.

I don’t have to worry about people overhearing us because we booked out the jewelry store for just us. I didn’t want her to have a traditional diamond ring, so Bailey was pulling out the alternative stone rings. My mother and Florence were oohing and ahhing over all the beautiful rings, not really being helpful like I thought they would be. After what felt like forever, I finally found it. The perfect ring. It was an oval green blue sapphire with marquise cut diamond clusters on the side of the ring, with a rose gold band. It was perfect.

“This one,” I said, pointing to the ring.

Everyone went quiet and walked over to me, looking down at the ring.

“Oh, Euan. It’s perfect. She’s going to love it!” Florence says, tears streaming down her cheeks.

My mom is speechless but there are tears in her eyes too. Bailey squealed saying that the sapphire came from the sea-dweller kingdom of Oceri, and that made Florence burst into tears. She missed her home and her family, but they went back a few times a year to visit the palace and her family. In her eyes, this was a piece of her home, residing on her daughter’s finger. Bailey didn’t bother putting this in a gift bag, just put it in a beautiful velvet ring box, handing it to me before hugging me close. We all make our way back to my parent’s house, where we were setting up for a huge family dinner. Obviously, this family dinner would include Junie’s family and the Royal Gamma family. No one else, besides my parents and Junie’s parents, knew we were mates. I don’t even know if Junie knew we were mates. We hadn’t seen each other in a few days, and I don’t think any of my shirts that she has smell like me anymore. I couldn’t wait to see her.

I can’t wait to smell her now that she’s gotten her wolf.

What is it with you and smelling her?

Don’t pretend that you don’t like it, you like smelling her just as much as I do.

Yes, but it’s weird when you say it like that.

Dakota slinks to the back of my mind, to sit and wait for our mate to be done with school and get her little ass here. Over the last two years, Juniper has gone from a beautiful young woman to a woman. I couldn’t help but think of the way her waist dips into her hips, giving her that perfect hourglass figure, her nice plump ass that I love smacking every chance I get. I never considered myself either a boob man or an ass man, but with Juniper, I’m an “everything man”. Mom and Florence start to advise the staff where they want everything and how they want everything to look, while I go upstairs to change before Rory and Flynn bring Junie here from school. Getting out of the shower, I toss on a pair of black slacks, and put on my white button-up, tucking it in when it’s all buttoned. The cuff links I put on were my dad’s when he and mom got married, so having them for luck meant everything to me. I grab a black leather belt to complete the look. No need for a jacket because it’s fall and therefore it’s relatively nice out.

The waiting is going to kill me, I swear to the Goddess, it will. Florence told me that Rory and Flynn brought her back to their house so she could change, but if I have to wait any longer to see my mate, I’m literally going to go crazy. Rory and Flynn arrive back at the house and quickly run upstairs to change for dinner, knowing how important this was to me. After their stint in the dungeons and being grounded for months on end on my 18th birthday, they’ve not said a negative word about Junie. The reports from the warrior in training that is following her around says that most pups steer clear of her, skirting her in the halls. Which, for Junie, is a vast improvement from how she used to be treated. She hates having the warrior with her, though she finds it an annoying inconvenience since we haven’t had rogues on our territory or seen rogues coming from the Rogue Lands in the last two years. We won’t become complacent though, because the moment we do, they’ll strike and I can’t lose her, I WON’T lose her.

I’m pulled out of my thoughts when I hear another car pulling into our driveway and walking to the large bay windows at the front of the house, I see that it’s Killian with Junie and her sister Stephanie, who’s 11 now, along with Marcus and Owen following in a car behind them. The moment Junie steps out of the car, her eyes go wide, and I watch as she takes in a lung full of air and I see her eyes darken, her wolf coming forward. She’s caught my scent, she knows I’m her mate. She takes off running, slamming open the front door, spinning to find me before she runs at me. She barrels into me, knocking us both to the floor when we both utter the word I’ve been dying to say for years.

“Mate.”
