CHAPTER 17 Lia lay on a hard surface, looking up at something plain and white. She felt no curiosity about where she had ended up, only a sort of detached awareness. She studied a white popcorn ceiling above her as a dusty fan circled round and round and round. “Did you wake up, sleeping beauty?” an oily voice demanded, “or are you still hiding in a cowardly stupor?” She didn’t respond to his insult.
