I thought that was it. I’d walk out into the cool night air, collect myself, and pretend it never happened. But the second my heels hit the pavement outside, I saw him leaning against the side of the building. The streetlights caught the sharp lines of his jaw, the hood shadowing his eyes. He didn’t wave, didn’t speak just tilted his head, a silent order to come closer. I should have kept walking. Instead, my feet moved toward him like they belonged to someone else. The crowd was thin here, most people rushing past toward the busier main street.
