Chapter 5

After a while Aeron and Gabriel managed to compose themselves a little and stop crying, they sat in silence near their collapsed home for three hours waiting for help to come , while Liza was still kneeling and holding her mother arm her cries died down a little but she was still sopping ,but help never came , some people were running down the streets some walked by with a dead look in their eyes like empty shells wondering aimlessly , the silence went long between them it was the first time they sat in silence without having a conversation they couldn't even guess what the other was thinking , realty had hit them hard but finally Aeron broke the silence and said while looking down between his knees in low empty voice Gabriel barely managed to hear.

Aeron: do you think our parents survived.

Gabriel answered in the same manner.

Gabriel: I am sure they did, they should be coming back here to help us soon.

Aeron: if they were coming, they should have already arrived.

Gabriel: do not fall into despair they will come.

Suddenly loud ringing sounded and shortly after a loud emergency sirens started to go out , it was the emergency warning system speakers spread around the nation, and when the sirens stopped a loud voice started to echo from the speakers ,

THIS IS AN EMERGENCY WARNING, THIS IS AN EMERGENCY WARNING, NATIONAL LEVEL DISASTER HAD OCCURRED LOW LEVEL AREAS ACCROS THE NATION ARE FLOODING WITH WATER, TO ALL CITZENS HEAD TO HIGH GROUND AREA AS HIGH AS YOU CAN , I REPEAT.

The emergency warning repeated for a few times then stopped, Aeron stood up after determined and said,

Aeron: we can't stay here we need to go to a higher ground.

Gabriel answered while still sitting down,

Gabriel: we can't our parents will come soon to get us, what if they come and didn't find us.

Aeron answered with determined voice,

Aeron: we need to go to the university library its across town and on a higher ground than here, plus our parents know we where heading to this morning they probably think we got stranded there by now, I am sure they will check there before checking home.

Gabriel convinced by his friend world stood up determined to follow his friend, they walked towards Liza and stood behind her, she was still in the same position she was in the last three hours, Aeron placed his hand on her shoulder.

Aeron: Liza we need to go we can't stay here.

Liza didn't answer so he repeated it again in a higher voice in case she didn't hear him the first time, but suddenly Liza turned her head swapped his hand away roughly and glared at them with a teary eyes and screamed,

Liza: get away from me you freaksssss, leave me alone.

Aeron and Gabriel shocked from her reaction stepped back few steps and froze for minute, but Aeron shortly turned around and said to Gabriel whole grabbing his hand,

Aeron: let us go we can't stay here.

Gabriel resisted for a second and stuttered,

Gabriel: but but, we can't leave Liza here.

Aeron stared at him and yanked his arm forward,

Aeron: we can't help someone who lost all hope to live.

Both started walking forward heading towards the street they never looked back, it was the last time they saw Liza.

They kept walking down the street for about an hour heading north towards the library, their small legs started to tire and the scene around them didn't help or give them motivation to keep going , Liza scene kept repeating every where they looked kids woman and men screaming crying or walking down the street without souls, a couple of minutes later a medium size bus drove past them and suddenly stopped few meters ahead , the door opened and a middle aged woman popped her head from the door faced them and said,

Middle aged woman: Where are your parents, where you're going kids.

Gabriel wanted to answer but Aeron signed to him to stay silent,

Aeron: we are going to the university library across town, think our parents got stuck there we are going to meet them.

The middle-aged woman smiled at them and said,

Middle aged woman: that's a long way to walk on your small legs, hop in we are heading there we will give you a ride.

They looked at each other and hesitantly got in the buss, they shoved themselves to the back seat and sat there, the bus started to move again navigating the partially destroyed streets , the buss was full of old people kids and woman and the middle aged woman kept talking the whole time expressing her worries comments and her own narrative on the current situation, it seemed there was no end to her jabber, Aeron and Gabriel paid her no mind and kept their eyes fixed on the buss windows watching the destruction and chaos that occurred around the city , and after a while the buss reached a complete stop in traffic near the bridge that connects the northern part of the city to its south.

middle aged woman: I can see the bridge, but it seems the traffic isn't moving I will go check it out quick.

She quickly opened the bus door and started running towards the bridge, and after a while came back she popped her head inside the boss and said,

Middle aged woman: the police is blocking the road they say the bridge is structurally damaged and can't allow cars to cross it, we will have to cross it on foot.

Everyone got out of the buss and started heading towards the bridge the middle-aged woman asked everyone to stick together and keep moving and after a while they reached the bridge and started walking on it, the bridge was 3 km long and was a cross a canyon connecting the southern part of the city to its north , the canyon not that deep but still had homes and streets connected to other parts of the city, when they reached around the middle of the bridge Aeron had another weird feeling and soon after a small tremor and shaking started to occur, every one dove to the ground or started grab rails around them in fear of it being another earthquake, but Aeron stood his ground determined to find the source he started looking around then fixed his sight on the western horizon from the bridge, his eyes where sharp gazing into the distance, then he grabbed Gabriel shoulder not averting his eyes and pointed into the distant horizon.

Aeron: Something big is coming!!
