“Nope, she’s the house human, ” Arek said.
“Are there other humans working there?” I asked.
“Well there was one, ” Ronin said. “But he just gone one day and never came back. A few weeks later, Red was knocking at our door with a suitcase and a tray of cupcakes.”
“You guys never told me that,” Rhonda gasped.
“We didn’t think anything of it,” Dante said. “It wasn’t that uncommon for people to just not be there anymore. We figured the boss must have got rid of him so he could take in Rhonda. He doesn’t really like more than twenty-five total.”
“You don’t think he was sacrificed for you?” Rhonda asked. “Was…was I next? Is that why he asked me to work for him?”
