Charlotte’s POV
“Wow,” I said as I turned around in a slow circle so I could really take in the room.
If the themes of the rooms in the palace were based on colours then this room definitely had a pink theme.
“I take it you like the room.” I heard a voice say from behind me.
I turned to face the direction in which the voice came from and was brought face to face with someone I wasn’t expecting.
“Lady Addison?” I asked.
She was truly the last person I had expected to see but then again she was the only member of the royal family that I had come close to so she was the only one I should have thought would ask to see me in private. It was still a surprise to me as to why she would ask to see me.
“Usually people bow to me as a greeting.” She said.
I could tell that her tone was teasing but my eyes still widened at my mistake and my head quickly dropped. “I’m so sorry, it seems like my head hasn’t been on right this whole trip.”
“It’s quite alright.” She said. Which caused my head to lift back up in surprise. The royal family was known to be strict about maintaining royal protocol so I thought I would get punished severely for my poor manners. “I suppose I can let go of some formalities since I invited you here.”
I gave her a shy smile which she returned with a confident one of her own. She smoothened down the front of her dress before she took a step towards me. I took one back almost immediately.
‘Why are we moving back?’ My wolf asked me confused by my actions.
At the same time, Lady Addison asked me, “Why are you moving backwards?”
“I don’t know,” I said out loud as an answer to both.
Lady Addison gave me another smile, this time it seemed she was more amused by me before she moved forward again. This time I didn’t move back.
I watched her unsure as she approached me in her blue dress and I couldn’t help but compare myself to her. We were clearly from different worlds and it could be seen easily; it was like the expensive-looking dress she wore was made for her while I knew I was more suited to the sweatpants I wore frequently, she was able to walk so gracefully in her heels as if she had been doing so from the get-go but I knew I would trip over the air if I ever tried to walk in them and the final difference between us was that I would never be confident enough to invade someone else’s personal space but here she was brushing my bangs back from my forehead as if it was the most natural thing to do.
I didn’t like having my personal space invaded so my guard immediately went up. I took a step backwards to put some space between myself and Lady Addison before I reached up to fix my bangs, I had worked very hard to get them in the position they were in so I especially did not enjoy having someone ruin them.
“What are you doing?” I asked her. I knew my tone wasn’t the kindest and would more than likely get me in trouble with a high ranking wolf such as her, but I couldn’t allow my personal space to be invaded, I had no way of knowing if she would take my complacency as leeway to do as she liked around me.
She gave me a smile that didn’t do anything to placate my nerves. “There was something I needed to see.”
“What was it?” I asked her. I narrowed my eyes at her. I don’t know whether if that was just how royalty spoke but she seemed to speak in very coded terms that weren’t easy to decipher. I didn’t like it.
“You look like someone I know.” She said.
She was answering my question with words that left me in nothing but more confusion. I didn’t like it.
“Can we stop talking in riddles? Just tell me why you called me here.” I said to her.
I couldn’t sense anything bad about the situation but for some reason, my wolf was becoming agitated which was putting me in a bad mood.
“I want to use you.” She said. I tilted my head out of curiosity. “I have a plan and you are the perfect person to use to carry it out.”
I pretended to think over it but I was already sure what my answer would be as my mom’s words to me rang through my head.
“No,” I said to her.
Her eyes widened. “But you haven’t even heard what my plan is.”
“I can’t afford to get into any shenanigans here. There are too many people depending on me back home.” I replied to her.
My mom had told me to be cautious while I was here and even though she had said it softly to me, my dad had been shooting lasers at me from behind her when she had whispered them into my ear. My dad hadn’t said it out loud but I was sure that I would get it in bigger than big trouble back home if I got into any trouble while I was here.
I knew that agreeing to Lady Addison’s plan would have me in a position where I wasn’t sure I would be able to go back home with my head held high if I messed up and the only sure-fire way to avoid that would be to not get involved at all.
I turned to leave.
“Wait! You can’t just leave.” She said in a panic but I was already halfway across the room and I was getting closer to the door so I didn’t turn back to look at her. “Cynthia, come out we need to stop her.”
‘Cynthia?’ My wolf asked curiously in my mind.
‘That’s what she said.’ I replied to her as I continued to walk towards the door.
‘Aren’t you curious to find out who Cynthia is?’ She asked me.
‘No, I am not.’ I said as I grabbed the door handle to pull it open.
‘You are not but I am.’ She said to me as she surged forward and took control of my body.
My wolf only took control of my body when we had disagreements and I guess this was one of those times. She forced my hand to drop from the door handle before having me turn on the heels of my feet so that I was back to facing Lady Addison. I was only expecting to see the same brown-haired blue-eyed Lady Addison but what I was not expecting was the female next to her.
“What?” I said as I took a shocked step towards the pair.
My mouth dropped open as she turned away from facing Lady Addison to fully face me.
I saw her eyes that were the same as mine widen when she took me in.
She was wearing a flowy beige coloured dress with strappy nude heels. Her fingernails were coloured a deep blue colour and her hair was in loose curls around her face.
That was where the outer differences between us stopped because other than those differences she looked exactly like me.
“What is going on here?” I asked as I finally got back control of myself from my wolf.
