Charlotte’s POV
The trip to Royale City had passed by in a blur.
I suppose that was a good thing because it meant that the trip felt shorter than it was and I didn’t have to spend a long time agonising over leaving the place I had called home for the past 19 years.
Before I left, as Beta Steven was loading my two suitcases into the back of his car, I think that was the first time I had seen my mom cry for a legitimate reason. I mean she was always an emotional person so I had seen her cry a lot over the years but the reasoning for those tears always seemed pretty trivial like me losing my first tooth or me coming back with a scraped knee when I went to play with Eddie in the woods.
This time though she looked truly sad which kind of irked me because she had promised that there was another plan that she was working on. There was no reason for her to be in that state but then again when has my mom not taken any chance to be overdramatic.
My wolf huffed at my thoughts clearly disagreeing with me.
‘Are you finally talking to me again?’ I asked my wolf.
‘I wasn’t ever not talking to you.’ She replied.
‘But you haven’t said anything to me since last night, I thought you had gotten cold feet.’
‘Something else had my attention.’
‘Like what?’
‘You’ll see.’
‘What are you hiding from me?’ I asked her but I got no reply. I let out a deep sigh which had the girl who was seated next to me huff in annoyance.
Normally, I would have let it go but I realised that I didn’t want to do that and give the girl the impression that she could just walk all over me because that huff wasn’t the first one I had heard directed at me from her during the 4-hour flight.
I turned to look at her and she did the same. I could sense she was a werewolf as well. I could also sense that she had a lower rank than I did, which caused me to smirk internally.
I locked eyes with her which she tried to do as well but she eventually backed down when she saw that her stare wasn’t intimidating me. I smirked openly triumphantly when the girl bared her neck at me which showed her submission. Although I felt bad using my rank to have her submit to me, it kind of felt good to use my rank since I rarely got the chance to outside the pack.
“We’ll be landing in Sir Peter West International Airport shortly. Please do fasten your seatbelt and please be reminded that you will only be allowed to disembark the plane once it has come to a stop. Thank you for flying West Airways.” I heard over the speakers in the plane.
I smiled and looked outside the window as the plane we were in broke through the cloud cover and the Royal City came into view below it. The city was made up of many tall buildings that were scattered across it, taller than any of the buildings we had on our territory, but in the centre, there was a large area of woodland.
“Wow,” I said in awe as I took in the stunning view.
I took out my phone and snapped a picture so that I could send it to Eddie later. Eddie was probably the only person who was excited for me to leave saying that this would give us a tonne of new things to speak about. Honestly, that statement had been part of the reason I hadn’t burst into tears when I left the pack because I was still laughing at Eddie’s words even after we had crossed our territory line.
I was worried about how I would be spending my first time out of my pack’s territory but Eddie was already looking forward to the talks we would have when I got back. Eddie was truly something else and I loved him for it.
As the plane came to a stop on the runway, I didn’t want to bump into too many people so I waited patiently until everyone had gotten off of the plane to get off as well. I then made my way to the airport building to collect my luggage. I had only carried two large suitcases even though I had thought one would be enough. I thought I wouldn’t need a lot of outfits but my mom convinced me to pack a few extra things.
I knew I wasn’t there to impress the Alpha Prince, I was just there to buy time for my mom’s plans to come through but it seemed like she was hoping that I would actually participate in the events. All I was hoping for was that my mom’s plans would work out so that I didn’t have to be away from home for too long.
My mom had told me that I would be collected by a representative from the royal palace when I arrived at the airport so an amazed smile spread across my lips when I saw someone dressed in a black suit waiting for me with my name on a whiteboard when I left the baggage area of the airport.
I stopped and took a picture of the sight on my phone knowing that Eddie wouldn’t believe me if I just told him about it. I continued moving toward the man and noticed the girl standing next to him was the same one that had been seated next to me on the flight.
“Lady Charlotte Green?” The man asked as I approached him. I nodded my head at him. “It is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Edgar and I will be escorting you to the palace.”
I noticed that Edgar had an accent that everyone I had ever met who came from the capital had. I mean I’d only ever met one other person when my family hosted a cousin of the king a few years ago but I could still remember how different their accent sounded than mine.
“It’s nice to meet you too,” I said smiling up at him. I shot a look at the girl standing next to him. “Is she going palace as well?”
“Yes. This is Lady Jolee Naidoo, she is the daughter of the Beta family from Forest Grove Pack.” He replied as he took my bag from my hands and put it on his cart.
I nodded at him and shot Jolee a smile. I reached out my hand to her.
“We may have gotten off on the wrong foot during the flight,” I said to her.
She huffed. “I would rather we not interact any more than we need to.”
My eyes widened but I retracted my hand back to myself and shot her an embarrassed smile.
‘I can’t believe you managed to make an enemy already.’ My wolf said into my head as Edgar walked us to the car.
‘Are you really that surprised?’ I asked her.
I had always had trouble making friends so I wasn’t surprised at the fact that Jolee wasn’t too fond of me, if anything I did not expect to make any friends during my stay so this wasn’t all too shocking to me.
‘No.’ She replied before she cut off our connection once again.
