The officer continued. "The waves might have carried her body and there is no guarantee that she'll be found.”
“We have also asked around nearby hospitals for anyone bearing that name, meaning she is most likely gone."
Emily breathed a sigh of relief inside. It was going to be ruled as a suicide and no one would suspect her.
Lucas, on the other hand, was speechless. He had gotten his divorce. however, he could not help but feel that he had played a part in her death.
[3 days earlier, the night of the accident]
As Ariana sank deeper into the water, she saw an unrecognizable figure swimming towards her.
She thought it was just her mind playing tricks on her as she neared death
She ran out of oxygen and everything went black.
The next thing she felt was the warm, firm lips that pressed against hers, forcing air into her chest.
She coughed, expelling the water from her lungs.
She opened her eyes to see a stranger's face inches from hers, water dripping from his chiseled jawline.
“Hey, stay with me,” he whispered, his voice gentle.
She tried to speak but drifted back into unconsciousness
[Greystin Hospital]
The steady beeping of the heart monitor was the first thing Ariana heard when she regained consciousness.
She slowly opened her eyes, squinting from the bright fluorescent lights. She looked around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings.
Her body felt weak as she struggled to sit up.
“Welcome back.” the nurse smiled warmly. “You're safe now.”
“Where am I?” she asked as she continued to gaze around.
“You are at Greystin Hospital. You were brought here after being rescued from drowning.” the nurse explained.
“Drowning?” she squeezed her face looking confused.
“Yes. Mr. Julian brought you here. Don't you remember? ”
“No….I don't” Arianna murmured, her mind blank.
The nurse had a worried look on her face. “That's fine. We didn't find any ID on you. Could you give me your name so we can process your details?”
“Of course. My name is…….” She suddenly stopped.
“What's my name?”
Ariana couldn’t remember anything. She couldn’t remember what had happened, where she came from, or what had happened.
The doctor arrived to inspect her. “It seems you are suffering from Trauma-induced Amnesia.”
Ariana looked confused. “Trauma-induced Amnesia? What does that mean?”
“It would appear that because of your accident, you lost your memories.”
Ariana's face fell. “Will I get them back?”
The doctor had a serious look on his face. “It varies from person to person. Some people regain part of their memories, some all …..and some don't remember anything at all. But the hospital will help you in anyway we can.”
Arianna decided to take a stroll to clear her head. She sat on the bench just outside the hospital, worried and confused.
Who was she and how did she end up almost drowning??
What if she never regained her memories?
The only thing she knew was that she felt a pain in her heart that could be only be caused by heartbreak.
“Good to see you are up.” A voice lifted her out of her thoughts.
It was Julian Alistair, the man that saved her. She could see a man in a suit standing not too far behind him. He was Julian's bodyguard.
Julian was a billionaire heir well known in Crenshaw city. The Alistair family were a very powerful family and Julian was known to be a very cold man.
“May I?” he said as he took a seat beside her on the bench.
“Do I know you?” Ariana asked confused.
“I heard the doctor said you had amnesia. My name is Julian, i was the one who found you and brought you to the hospital.”
Suddenly, her mind flashed and the memory of his lips on hers came back causing her face to go red.
“Oh. I’m so sorry i didnt recognize you. Thank you so much. I guess I owe you my life.”
“It's fine. I heard from the doctor. You really don't remember anything? Not even your name?” Julian probed
Ariana's face scrunched up, her eyes squeezing shut. “No. I've been trying to remember but I keep coming up with a terrible headache.”
Julian's gaze drifted to Ariana's neck, noticing a locket.
“What about that on your neck. Perhaps it could mean something to you.”
Ariana hadn't even noticed she was wearing a locket. She opened it up and saw a message inscribed inside.
“To my dear Elizabeth. Love from grandma.”
“It says Elizabeth on the locket! That must be my name!”
