Chapter three

377 Words
Everyone was on edge when Dante, Lorenzo’s assistant, gave the order: “Prepare a room. Beside Mr. Medici’s own.” “Mr. Medici is bringing a woman in .” Whispers everywhere. “Do you think it’s his lover?” “I didn’t even know Mr. Medici had a lover.” “Or maybe it’s a relative? He doesn’t let family close.” “Beside his room though? .” The word spread through the halls faster than the maids could carry trays. A woman. Beside his room. It was a shock to everyone. Mr. Medici didn’t bring visitors in. Not even business associates. Not even women. So everyone was curious. “Who’s this lady?” “Why her?” “Why now?” For years, his doors were locked to the world. And today, he was putting a woman’s in a room right beside his. *. Lorenzo Medici POV* “Is everything ready for her arrival?” I didn’t turn from the glass. The window showed the road below. Every car. Every gate. Every move. I held the whiskey to my lips, sipping slow. Watching from above like I was a god. Others would think I was one. “Yes.” One word. Dante. That was enough. She was coming. And this house would learn her name before she even crossed the threshold. I took another sip. The ice clinked against crystal. Then I set the glass down. “Leave.” No explanation. No look. Just one word and the door clicked shut behind him. *.Ivy POV* I’d been summoned by my father. To his personal office. Walking down the hallway, I had no clue what he wanted to tell me. My fingers fidgeted with the hem of my dress. I stepped into the office. “Dad, you sent for me?” My voice came out small. “Yes. Come in. Close the door.” He didn’t look at me. “I have something to tell you sit .” “You will move to Italy.” He finally looked at me. But not like a father. Like a man closing a deal. “To stay with your uncle. My brother, Lorenzo.” My breath caught. “Pack your stuff. You leave tomorrow. Before noon.”
