Chapter 4: Love to kill
Dane’s Pov
The hardest thing to do was move on from love. The love that betrays my heart and kills my soul without mercy.
Never in my life did I expect this kind of betrayal to happen. I always envy those who were victims of a love affair but never thought it could happen to me.
“Moon goddess! Why me?” My mind runs with thoughts as Miles, the rogue and I make our way back home. I know I can’t automatically switch my feelings and move on easily. I mean I am going through the hardest time of my life.
However, I can’t help but keep asking myself what I failed to give her. Did I ever make her ever feel lonely because, as long as I can remember, I never made her feel insecure and unloved?
I gave her everything, even the title that she desired the most.
‘Luna.’
Look at how we turn out. After so many years of loving her, she ended up tossing me in the land of rogues like trash. Like I don’t deserve an explanation and a goodbye note.
At least give me something I deserve. Not a fu.ck.in.g affair, rejection, and a dagger to the heart.
Fu.ck her for making me love her. F.u.c.k her for taking all of me and for wasting my years. I felt like crying but for some reason, I couldn’t.
Maybe because the moment she walked without looking back was the moment my heart died, my tears drained, and my love was viciously killed. There is no more to give. Who am I going to give it to when all these women and mates are the same?
The tug of the rope in my hand took me out of my thoughts. I look at the source of disruption and see the little rogue struggling to free her wrists. I gripped the rope and pulled her close to me.
“Runaway and I’ll kill you with no mercy,” I warned her.
She shrugs her shoulders. “I wasn’t trying…but believe it or not, Alpha, the reason I was pulling the rope was that my wrists hurt so badly while you are on a zone-out mission,” she reasoned with me.
“Are you talking back to me?” I narrowed my eyes on her.
She heaves a sigh. “No, I was only telling the truth,” she whispers.
“I don’t believe you,” I said, standing my ground.
“Then you should ask your Beta,” she argued.
Ughh, this woman is only irritating me. I looked to my right for Miles, but he was whistling and glancing to the other side. The jerk is avoiding me, and I am sure he is thinking of taking her side.
“Miles” I growled.
“What Alpha?” he pretended to act dumb.
“Miles, don’t” I said.
He ran his hand through his hair before replying, “Don’t ask me, I was only admiring our nature ... . Look, we're home” he said, and quickly walked towards our border security.
Bastard. How dare he betray me?
I looked back at the little rogue, warning her with my eyes not to play with me. Moon goddess, I don’t even know why I am trying to prove my point here.
Straightening my back, I walked towards the border while pulling her behind me. We entered my territory and I could see the curiosity of my warriors.
No one asks me or utters a single word through our pack link. We walked through the forest and made it to the open field of our pack.
Since it's midday and everyone was taking time off after our packing work, they all stopped and looked at me before averting their gaze at the rogue.
The majority of my pack members were on the open field. Like my warriors at the border, everyone was looking at her curiously.
“Alpha, we thought something happened to you?” an old lady in our pack asked me as she held a basket of fruits in her hands. She looks worried.
“I am fine” I simply answered and looked around the field.
We were in the middle of the field now. I let go of the rope that tied the little rogue to me and looked around. I opened up our pack link. “I want everyone to be here in the open field, except for our warriors on duty,” I said.
“I have a special announcement to be made. So be here in four minutes” I added.
I stood there waiting and in less than five minutes everyone made it to where I stood, surrounding me. Again, their eyes roam between me and the rogue. I wanted to do this but now I don’t know how to start. The pain that I lost for a while revived and made me feel weak. Holding back my tears, I bravely held my head before clearing my throat to speak.
“I am sorry to gather you here on a very short notice. However…” I pause and look around.
“Where’s Luna Melissa?” I heard someone whisper from the back. I shut my eyes and clench my fist.
“It is important to note, from now on…” I pause again. Once I find my voice and strength I continue “we won’t have a Luna.”
Today I will kill that love I have for her and kill her if I ever see her again.
Everyone began to murmur.
I feel a hand on my shoulder. I looked aside to find Miles looking at me with concern. I know he has questions but he won’t ask as he is only trying to comfort me.
“Alpha, what happened to our Luna? Oh moon goddess bless her soul”, one of the pack members asks and she looks sad.
“Is it because of this filthy rogue?” the other one questions and moves forward to slap the little rogue but I hold her hand in the air. Everyone looks shocked because of the way I am protecting the rogue.
“No, your Luna is well and in good health. As for the rogue, she saves me” I said and everyone looked at me in confusion.
“Alpha-“
More questions were heard, and I grew tired of hearing it.
“Be quiet”
Boom! The whole crowd went silent.
“Today marks the day that your Luna is officially dead. She is no longer welcome in our territory. The pain you felt was your Alpha on the brink of death. Stabbed and left to die in unknown territory by Melissa Woods,” I explained, and I could hear gasps from everyone. I wanted to tell how she betrayed me in another way, but I decided to keep that detail to myself and only exposed her treason movement.
“She is a rogue as of now and if you ever find her I want her head on a platter. And if one of you is seen with her, you will be banished and branded forever as a traitor.”
“Alph-“
“No more questions and if you are curious about this woman” I gestured to the little rogue. “She’s my business, alone”, I strictly told them before dispersing them.
Miles gave me a comfortable hug. “You are going to be fine dude,” he whispered before letting me go. I smiled at him before turning back to the rogue and saw her huffing in exhaustion.
“Come on,” I said and dragged her to our prison’s dungeon and threw her in one of our cells. “Keep good eyes on her” ordered the two guards and they both immediately said ‘Yes Alpha.’
On my way out of the prison I collided with Shanna. “Where do you think you’re going?” I held back Shanna’s arm when she was about to move past me.
“Nowhere” she patted her long eyelashes to me.
“Why Alpha, do you need me?” she said, biting her lip. Gosh, may heaven save this woman, though. Too exhausted to deal with her flirtation, I let go of her arm and walked back to my office at the pack house.
