We spent the rest of the evening chatting and laughing over pizza. Tyler was charming, always keeping the conversation flowing effortlessly. Lucas, on the other hand, was quieter, but his eyes held an intensity that made it clear he was listening intently. As we said our goodbyes and headed home, Tyler pulled me aside and whispered, "I had a great time tonight. Can we do it again soon?" My heart skipped a beat as I nodded, trying to contain my excitement. But as I walked away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt. Lucas had been watching us closely, and his face held a look of disappointment that I couldn't ignore. The next day, I found a note on my locker from Lucas, asking if I wanted to hang out after school. My heart raced as I accepted, wondering what he had planned. As we walked around the school, Lucas started talking about his love for music and how he played guitar in a band. I had never seen this side of him before, and I couldn't help but be drawn in by his passion. Suddenly, his phone rang, and he apologized as he took the call. As he spoke, his face turned dark, and he ended the call abruptly. "What happened?" I asked, concerned. "It's nothing," he said, his voice tight. "Just some drama with the band. Sorry to bring it up." I could tell he was holding something back, but I didn't want to push him. Instead, I changed the subject, and we spent the rest of the evening talking about our favorite books and movies. But as we said our goodbyes, I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right with Lucas. And as I walked home, I couldn't stop thinking about him and how much he meant to me. As we walked to our next class, I tried to shake off the uneasy feeling in my stomach. I couldn't believe what had just happened with Tyler. Did he really just kiss me? And more importantly, did I kiss him back? Lucas must have noticed the awkwardness between us because he suddenly spoke up. "So, how was the date with Tyler last night?" I froze, not sure what to say. Tyler had explicitly asked me not to tell anyone about our date, but I couldn't exactly lie to Lucas, not after what just happened. "It was nice," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "We went to this Italian restaurant downtown." Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Just nice? That's not what I heard. I heard it was a pretty steamy date." I could feel my cheeks turning red as I shot Lucas a warning glance. "What are you talking about?" Lucas smirked. "Oh, just a little birdie that overheard Tyler talking to his football buddies this morning. Apparently, things got pretty heated between you two." My heart was racing now as I tried to process what Lucas was saying. Had Tyler really been talking about me to his friends? And what did he mean by "things got pretty heated"? Before I could say anything else, the bell rang, signaling the start of our next class. As we headed into the classroom, I couldn't help but feel like everything was about to change. As we sit down at a booth in the diner, Tyler reaches across the table and takes my hand. "I've been thinking a lot about us, Winifred," he says, his eyes locked onto mine. I feel my heart skip a beat. "What do you mean?" I ask, my voice barely above a whisper. "I mean that I really care about you. And I want to be with you." My heart races as Tyler continues to speak, telling me how much he admires my strength and independence, how he loves the way I challenge him and make him want to be a better person. It's like he's speaking directly to my soul, and I can feel myself falling even deeper in love with him. But just as Tyler finishes speaking, the door to the diner bursts open and Lucas storms in, his face twisted with anger. "What the hell is going on here?" he demands, his eyes flickering between Tyler and me. "Lucas, calm down," I say, trying to soothe him. "Tyler and I were just having a conversation." But Lucas isn't having it. "Don't tell me to calm down!" he snaps. "I saw you two holding hands! You're supposed to be with me, Winifred. You said you had feelings for me." I feel like the ground is shifting beneath me. How could I have gotten myself into this situation? I had no idea that both Tyler and Lucas had feelings for me, and now I'm caught in the middle of their jealousy and rage. Lucas was leaning against his car, looking as if he owned the place. When he saw me, he straightened up and greeted me with a grin. "Hey, Winifred! Looking good as usual." I rolled my eyes. "Thanks, Lucas. What do you want?" "Just wanted to talk to you for a bit." He paused, looking serious. "Look, I know I messed up before, and I'm sorry. I really am. But I want to make it up to you. Can we start fresh?" I raised an eyebrow, not sure if I believed him. But I decided to give him a chance. "Okay, let's start fresh. But no more games, Lucas. I can't handle any more drama." "I promise, no more games," he said earnestly. "I just want to be your friend and see where things go from there." I nodded, feeling relieved that he wasn't going to cause any more trouble. We talked for a while, catching up on each other's lives and joking around like old friends. But then something unexpected happened. As we were saying goodbye, Lucas leaned in and kissed me. I pulled away, startled. "What was that for?" "I just had to do it," he said with a smirk. "You're irresistible, Winifred. And I know you feel the same way about me." I shook my head, feeling confused. Lucas was right - I had been attracted to him at one point. But now, with Tyler and Will in the picture, things were more complicated than ever.
