Sylvia’s POV
‘What is that?’ Elo asked, snatching the note from me.
‘Ma cerise? Last night? What is going on?’
‘A food delivery from Maison Noir. Via, who have you pulled?’
‘Was it that guy from last night at the club? I knew what I saw.’
‘Start talking, Sylvia Vale,’ she said, looking half-annoyed and half-excited.
She moved on to unpack the food and served both of us.
‘Fine, I will.’
‘I don’t have all day.’
So I went on explaining everything—from the café meeting, to the club, and finally the food delivery and the note.
‘Marry him? Is this some kind of joke?’ she screamed, making me jump.
‘I don’t think so. He sounded very serious about it… and I’m more concerned about how he knows my address.’
‘He must be wealthy enough to pull a home delivery from Maison Noir. A f*****g five-star restaurant that only allows members!’ she exclaimed again.
‘Elo, stop screaming. I do realize that.’
‘Are you going to go?’
‘Are you crazy? Why would you even ask? You know I would not. He is giving serious stalker vibes.’
‘Girl, come off it. You are going.’
‘Elo, we don’t even know this guy. What if—’
‘What if nothing happens?’ she cut me off. ‘You are going and that is final. You only get to know someone when you meet them.’
She grabbed my wrist and pulled me toward my wardrobe.
‘Follow me. Let me help you get a dress.’
‘Have some fun, girl. If anything goes wrong, run and call me. I’ll come rushing to save you.’
She picked out a dress.
‘Try this.’
It was a sexy black mini dress.
‘No. It looks too slutty for a dinner date.’
‘Okay… this one?’
‘No. I don’t want to look like a slut. This is a first impression.’
‘Oh, so you do care,’ she teased.
‘Not really… but you know,’ I muttered.
Ring.
The doorbell rang.
‘I’ll get that,’ Elo said.
I walked to my wardrobe and picked a white dress that looked classy and less revealing.
‘Looks like Mr. Mysterious loves gifting,’ Elo called from the door.
‘What?’
She walked back in holding a large bag.
‘I felt it would be thoughtful to get you an outfit. Dinner is at nine. My chauffeur will pick you up. Ma cerise.’
Elo read the note aloud.
‘Wow. A full outfit from Secret Silk. This must cost a fortune.’
‘Via, you would look stunning in this.’
‘I know, right?’
‘Let’s get you ready for this date.’
Eloise worked her magic and glammed me up. When she finished, I barely recognized myself in the mirror.
I actually looked… beautiful.
Soon it was time to leave.
When we stepped outside my apartment building, a sleek black SUV was already waiting for me.
My eyes widened.
Just how rich is this guy?
When we arrived at the restaurant, I was directed to a secluded area.
Something immediately felt strange.
The restaurant was almost empty.
As I walked closer, I saw him.
The handsome stranger from the club.
He leaned back in his chair, dressed in a perfectly tailored suit that fit him like a second skin. His broad shoulders and muscular frame made the suit look even more expensive.
Even while seated, he radiated a quiet dominance that made the entire room feel smaller.
My mind betrayed me for a second.
I wondered what it would feel like to slide my hands across that broad chest…
‘Sylvia, concentrate,’ I scolded myself.
The waiter pulled out a chair for me.
He didn’t even acknowledge my presence.
For the next few minutes, he stayed on the phone, speaking calmly as if I wasn’t sitting right in front of him.
It was unbelievably rude.
The waiter handed me the menu.
‘Could you excuse us for a moment?’ I told him politely.
Then I turned to the arrogant man across from me.
‘Mr. Mysterious, do you realize you are being incredibly rude by ignoring someone you invited to dinner?’
He muttered a few final words into the phone before dropping it on the table.
Then he finally looked at me.
His dark eyes settled on mine, sharp and calculating.
‘Kieran.’
‘It is Sylvia.’
‘Are you slow?’
His voice was calm, but the insult landed sharply.
‘My name is Kieran Alessandro Moretti.’
I frowned.
‘This is a proposal meeting.’
‘Let’s order something to eat while we discuss the proposal.’
‘I think we should move straight to the main deal. I’ve had enough of your insults to stay here another second,’ I replied angrily.
He raised his hand slightly.
The waiter immediately appeared.
Ignoring me completely, he ordered food for both of us.
Then his gaze returned to me.
‘Feisty and stubborn. I like it.’
‘Do you have a boyfriend?’
I ignored him and pulled out my phone to text Eloise.
If he could ignore me earlier, I could do the same.
‘You don’t ignore me when I’m speaking.’
Before I could react, he leaned across the table and effortlessly took the phone from my hand.
‘Food is here. Let’s eat.’
‘Can I have my phone back?’
He ignored me and began eating.
The food smelled incredible, and eventually my hunger won.
After the main course, the waiter brought a slice of chocolate cake.
It looked dangerously tempting.
But I forced myself to stay focused.
‘So… can we move on to the reason for this meeting?’
Kieran snapped his fingers.
A man in a suit immediately approached and handed me a file.
I opened it.
‘A marriage contract?’
‘Yes. I’m proposing a one-year marriage contract.’
‘And what makes you think I would sign this?’
‘I’m offering one million dollars… per month.’
My breath caught.
One million dollars.
Enough to pay off Bexon and finally stop his threats.
My heart skipped.
‘Have you been stalking me?’
He leaned back calmly.
‘You think too highly of yourself. I simply did a little research.’
‘Then I’m not interested in this contract.’
‘You should read the contract before deciding.’
He stood up.
‘You have three days. I’ll be waiting for your answer.’
He placed his business card on the table before walking away with the man I assumed was his assistant.
Who leaves a lady sitting alone at the table like that?
My eyes returned to the contract lying open in front of me.
One million dollars per month.
For one year… as his wife.
What kind of devil had I just met?
