- DAY 8 -
"I didn't know you could play the piano, it sounds wonderful", Harley said. Calmly listening to music without having to look over her shoulder was a luxury. She finally relaxed, gently closed her eyes and laid her head on Zweli's chest as they slowly danced.
"And didn't know you were such a big eater", Zweli said.
A peaceful silence fell upon the room as they danced away to the blissful music. Time felt as though it had stopped.
The flowery scent of Harley's custom-made perfume spread everywhere around them. Their slow-tempo heartbeats were in sync with each other as they enjoyed the calm music.
"Harley, can I tell you something?", Zweli said as softly as possible.
"Go ahead, tell me something",
"Promise to keep it a secret?"
"I promise", she said, looking into her honest dark blue eyes.
He leaned over to her ear, "I don't like the way those two look at you."
"I don't like the way you look at me", she retorted. The pair made brief eye contact and soon burst into cackling laughter.
"You sure are something else", she said.
'If only you knew how true that was', Zweli thought to himself.
A bright ray of sunlight slipped through the open glass window and made her hazel eyes sparkle. The soft classical music ended. Zweli spent less than a second starting it all over again.
"It's okay, we can listen to it later", Harley said. "Let's get something sweet to eat", she added, her smile as bewitching as ever to Zweli, who could never dream of resisting it. Any man charged with such a crime must be executed on sight.
He sighed in defeat. "You miss Harley", he said, "Will be the death of my food."
She squinted her eyes and tilted her head in disbelief at what she heard. In response, she rolled up her tree lace sleeves and stood in a fighter's stance.
"You want to have a go at it?", she clenched her skilled fists.
"No can do m'lady", said Zweli, "I think I have some berries in the fridge and peaches in the garden".
"Now that's more like it", Harley said as she rolled down her delicate fabric.
- DAY 9 -
Excessive and relentless showers cloaked the finely trimmed grass and lavender flowers. Beds of roses and clovers were drenched in the water.
In the middle of it all rested a melancholic she-wolf. She did not mind the endless drops of water seeping into her clothes, which she didn't own. She knew the owner wouldn't mind.
She shed tears of torment fused with the droplets.
Her heart was drowned in her countless sorrows. Not too different from a prisoner whose feet have been bound by chains to a weighty steel ball. Who's inevitable fate is to be thrown into the deepest ocean with no means of escape. If only her burdensome heart could be ripped out of her tired chest just for a moment.
Just until she could find a way out. The everlasting feeling of neglect and helplessness escalates throughout her mind and body to torment her every day. Why? She asks herself. Why?
"Let her be", said Zweli, another troubled soul. "She'll come around, right now she only needs time to herself".
Kyle stared at her from afar and saw a resemblance to his past self. In the former days in a different life, he would have joined her happily. But not today. Within the blink of an eye, he felt her presence behind him.
"Say it again", she says. Her voice could be heard clearly, as if there was rain.
"Say what?"
"Apologize",
His heart skipped a beat at those decisive words. He knew that was his only chance. He swallowed his pride, accepted his mistakes and humbled himself.
"I forgive you Beta Kyle Venus, now don't make me regret it".
- DAY 10 -
Breakfast proceeded quietly before the main topic arose.
"I saw her in my dreams the other night", Harley began.
"Who?", asked Zweli.
"My oldest friend. Amareche. Who's now supposedly reincarnated".
"Oh, Kyle here told us a bit about her", said Mac, "I'm surprised I've never heard of her".
"Did he now?", she said, displeased.
"Can I give you my two cents about her?", Zweli said, breaking the visible tension.
"I'd appreciate that"
"I read in a book that in rare cases after a being has been reincarnated by a god or goddess, there is a chance that a demon may take the former appearance. They then use that illusion on people close to the reincarnated being. For, of course, atrocious reasons".
"Woah", sighed Harley.
"I'd suggest that you don't share crucial information when you encounter her. Oh, and it's a strzyga".
Zweli ended his lecture with a geeky smile.
"Thanks... I had no idea". She stared blankly into space until she came to terms with all that had been said. She knew very well that she could never.
- DAY 11 -
No matter how much she was caressed by Kyle and her alpha. A mental breakdown is something she had to go through on her own.
Bursting through the door was Zweli limping from a ghastly wound on his shoulder. His breath intakes were sharp and rapid. He rushed over to the oak cabinet of potions and herbs of all sorts. He wasted no time gulping a bottle of red liquid.
Just when the attention was on Zweli, thick black smoke materialized out of nothing. Styzyga revealed its distorted, sinister form.
Everyone was left agape at the vulgar sight.
"We're screwed aren't we?", Harley said.
- DAY 12 -
"So wait, we all got the same vision from the Goddess Nkanyezi? It must be nice being a werewolf", Zweli said.
They all turned their heads to him, "What, I didn't do anything wrong now, did I? I was just saying, relax guys".
"When will I ever get a break in my life? It's just one thing after the other!", said Harley.
"Harley, could you not talk with food in your mouth", said Mac.
She gave him the finger.
"Oh well", he sighed.
Zweli once again had to change the subject, "Want to hit the dance after eating sweetheart?"
"YES!", she screeched like a pup receiving candy.
- A FEW HOURS LATER -
"You know man, I'm just glad she's happy with Zweli, she's really had it tough. Ever since I've known her", said Mac, as if he were an old veteran recalling his warrior days.
"I guess that explains a lot", admitted Kyle.
"Hey don't smile like that when talking about her", he punched Kyle on his arm.
"Excuse me, what are you implying?"
The pair grappled each other on the floor like competitive little boys while Harley and Zweli waltzed like mature wolves.
- DAY 13 -
"So we can't stay here forever. You know that you and I are expected back at the Windcrest Packhouse"
"Ugh, why did you remind me? I love it here", she said, gazing at Zweli with longing eyes.
"Then let's all go together!", said Zweli. "I mean that way we can all protect each other and our stunning she-wolf won't have to miss me".
Harley was delighted at the idea, while Kyle and Mac gave up trying to convince him otherwise.
In a separate room, Zweli and Harley stood opposite each other with interlocked fingers and their faces only centimeters apart. Her gaze drifted between his eyes and lips. She reached out to touch his shoulders and yielded to his embrace, sliding her arms around him.
From Zweli, a playful kiss on the temple, on the tip of her nose and a passionate one on her glossy lower lip.
-DAY 14-
Unknown P. O. V
"They've got quite the guts, haven't they?"
"They sure do. I can't wait till things take an interesting turn".
