Mara’s POV
“His blood is fighting itself.”
I don’t sugarcoat it. Not for Kings. Not for Lunas. Not for twins.
Kai is on the infirmary bed. Seven hours after the attack. IV in his arm. Oxygen on his face. Skin grey. Fur patches still on his shoulders — he’s stuck. Mid-shift. Wolfsbane locked in his blood.
And Kade is on the bed with him.
No one can move him. Ryker tried. Jace tried. Kieran asked.
Kade said no.
“Kai gets cold without me,” he whispered. “We’re twins. We share heat.”
Now he’s curled against Kai’s side. Mr. Woof between them. Kade’s own inhaler clutched in his free hand. Like he’ll need it. Like Kai will need it.
Twins.
Aria is at the monitor. Doctor mask on. But her hands shake when she checks Kai’s pulse.
