Andre's POV
I could have sworn that for a moment, I had forgotten how to breathe, I didn't know how to anymore. Not that I wanted to. She looked heavenly.
Dressed in her emerald green gown, the one that I had specifically made for her, she looked exquisite. She was looking so beautiful that I was vexed when I saw others ogling at her. All that I wanted to do was poke at those eyes. How dare they look at my mate? I snapped myself out of the daydream I was having. She was nothing other than a breeder to me, nothing more, nothing less.
“ Yours. Yours. She is your mate” my wolf kept giggling excitedly. “ Go to her, go to her '' he cajoled. I had taken a step further when Phoebe placed a hand around my arm.
“ What do you think you are doing? Don't tell me that you are going there, to help her. It has to be some kind of joke right?”
I quickly placed my leg back, like I had missed my footings earlier. “ Of course not, why would I go to her when you are right here?”
“Right..?” She had a smile on her face that told me that she didn't believe me but was going to take it because we weren't alone.
“ Right,” I concurred with her.
“ So now, what were we doing?”
My eyes ran quickly through her dress. I had chosen a gown that clung to her curves but I didn't know it would be this fitted. When exactly had she grown so much that I didn't know about it? She was fiddling with her hands and when she mouthed out my name after standing there awkwardly for quite a while, I turned my head to the side.
“You know that we have always said that Phoebe is the most beautiful maiden we have ever had but this is a discovery, where is she from?” Someone close to us mouthed.
“Right. Everything fits just right, from her elegance to her carriage to her graceful smile, her curves and her shy smile show that she was born into royalty. How about I get her to marry my son? He will be glad you know”
I was amused, that was my mate. My f*****g mate, why did they want to hook her up with someone who isn't me? I was the one supposed to be by her side.
“Andre…” Phoebe whispered my name. I was lost already. Eleanor has drowned my mind.
“What is it?’’
“Isn't that Alpha Marrion? Did you invite him here? I mean that you both are arch enemies and….”
I slipped my hands that were interlocked with hers out of her hold, taking large strides toward where Marrion was with Eleanor.
“Marrion” I blurted out. He was beaming at her, smiling like he hadn't before and Eleanor was doing the same, what the hell was funny?
“Oh, Andre. You didn't tell me you had such a damsel in your kingdom. I should have come sooner,” he beamed as he drew closer to her, wrapping a hand around her waist
Eleanor's eyes were wide open like she wasn't expecting it. “What do you think that you are doing?” I demanded when Phoebe held me back.
“Get a hold on yourself. You don't want to cause a scene here, the lycan council are here and they are watching you. You wouldn't want them to get suspicious, right?”
I huffed, glaring at Eleanor who was biting her lips. All her actions were seductive to me and I was feeling myself get hard already.
“Oh, that is my song, I remember how I usually dance with my dad and…” she chipped in, her eyes twinkling like never before.
“You want to dance with me?” Marrion offered, “Come on, besides you are here alone and we could talk some more”
I waited for her answer because I knew that it was surely going to be the opposite when she surprised me. “Sure…I am not here with anyone and there isn't any harm”
I watched them both as they walked away, with her hands on his and I wondered if she was stupid. He was my enemy. He was someone she was supposed to hate and not talk to.
“Ahhh…ahhh..” my head was beginning to ache. She was surely going to be the end of me at this point.
“You are pissing me off, you promised me that you wouldn't do this, are you having feelings for her?” Phoebe demanded to know.
“You know that isn't true, I am here with you, am I not?” I tried to change the topic.
“Do you want to dance? Everyone's eyes are on us ‘’ I led her away to the dance floor, making sure that I was close enough to Marrion.
I had calculated things and the next song would have us exchanging partners then I would speak to her, warning her to desist but to my dismay, it didn't. I hated the fact that she was laughing with someone who wasn't me and the talks were budding, everyone was talking about how they were the perfect couple.
They ought to have been blind because I couldn't see whatever they were talking about. He was too old for her. “Andre...are you listening to me?”
I snapped my head at Phoebe who was utterly disappointed at me. “This is like the fifth time I am calling your name, what is wrong with you?”
I noticed that everyone was staring at us, and I was being called to the podium to give a speech. I didn't want to. I didn't trust Marrion with Eleanor but I was left with no choice. I was going to make it as brief as possible.
I held the microphone I had been handed, running my gaze around with a smile that halted when I noticed she was nowhere to be found.
“Where is she?” I gritted my teeth furiously, snapping my head around while trying to search for her among the crowd but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see her. She was nowhere to be found.
“ What is wrong? Where are you hurrying off to?" Phoebe asked when I stormed off the platform, gasps erupting from all corners as they kept wondering what exactly was going on.
“I can't find her" I uttered, loud enough while gazing round.
“I can't find Eleanor and Marion, what if he has taken her away from me?" I asked out loud, my chest drumming hard against my rib cage. I didn't want to believe that. It wasn't possible. I was finding it hard to breathe. My brain whizzed off like it had been hit by something hard and I couldn't understand anything I was being told for that moment.
Phoebe's hands dug into my arms, as she tried to gain my attention. “Can you hear yourself? Why are you sounding so worked up over someone else who you shouldn't be that way about? “
" Ahhhh” a scream jolted me around. my eyes strayed off to the direction it had come from. " There is a body floating in the lake and… .”
The words she uttered drained into the background as I ran out of the hall, panting heavily. I could sense that something had gone wrong with her. I f*****g couldn't feel my mate anymore.
I sprinted down the hall, hoping to rescue her when I halted. She was sprawled in Marrion’s arms. Her clothes were drenched her lips pale and Marrion didn't look any better.
Petals of water dropped down his clothes and his hair was ruffled. “Hand her over" I made gestures at him which he snorted.
“I think the best thing to do would be me handing her over to her parents and since I can't get any, I will be taking her home “his words riled me.
“ Hand over my f*****g mate right now!" I snapped, vexed at how close his hands were to her waistline. What did he think he was doing?
His mate. Is she the one? But that wasn't what we heard, he doesn't have any right? So what is she?
“ What are you doing?" Phoebe whispered to me. Her arms trying to dig into mine.
“ You said you wouldn't do this, so rebuff it, now. Please do so" she pleaded almost in tears. I couldn't care about her any more than I already had.
All my attention was on Marrion and Eleanor. “Your mate? Is that some joke? You are betrothed to Phoebe and everyone knows that, besides you said your mate isn't born yet so what exactly are you doing?" He questioned.
" She isn't his mate. It was a slip and… “ Phoebe said out loud
" Eleanor is my mate." I deadpanned. “The one given to me by Selina and if you take her away, it will cause issues between us” I affirmed to him.
Phoebe, who had been jittering a while ago, ran off with her hands on her mouth. I threw a glance at her before staring back at Marion
“Hand her over and we could stop whatever war this would cause us” I warned
