Isla’s Apartment – Late Night
Isla sat on her couch, staring blankly at the city lights flickering through her window. The weight of Ethan’s words still lingered in her mind. “I’m not asking for forgiveness right now. I’m asking for a chance.” His voice echoed in her head, making it impossible to focus on anything else.
Her heart was at war with her mind.
She wanted to believe him, to trust that he had changed. But a part of her, the part that had been wounded before, screamed at her to walk away before it was too late. How do I know he won’t hurt me again? How do I know he won’t disappear just like before?
She picked up her phone, scrolling through the unsent message she had typed hours ago.
"Ethan, I need more time."
Her thumb hovered over the send button, but she hesitated. She wasn’t even sure if time would change anything.
A sudden knock at the door made her jolt. Her heart pounded as she walked cautiously to the entrance. When she opened the door, she found Lily standing there with a knowing look on her face.
"I knew you'd be overthinking." Lily pushed her way inside, carrying a bag of ice cream. "So, tell me—are you letting him in, or are you pushing him away?"
Isla sighed, rubbing her temples. "I don’t know, Lily. I’m scared. What if I make the same mistake again?"
Lily handed her a spoon and sat down. "Look, I get it. But tell me one thing—do you still love him?"
The question made Isla freeze. She wanted to deny it, to tell Lily that she had moved on. But deep down, she knew the truth. She still loved Ethan. She never stopped.
But love wasn’t enough.
"Even if I do, Lily… what if that’s not enough? What if trusting him again breaks me?"
Lily gave her a sad smile. "Then you’ll pick up the pieces again, just like you did before. But at least you’ll know you tried."
Isla sighed, her heart heavy with indecision
Ethan’s Apartment
– Next Morning
Ethan hadn’t slept all night. His mind kept replaying Isla’s expression from the park—the hesitation in her eyes, the way she had held herself back from reaching out to him.
He knew he had to do something.
He picked up his phone and called an old friend—Noah, the only person who knew about his past better than anyone.
"Noah, I need your help."
"Is this about Isla?" Noah’s voice was calm but knowing.
"Yeah. I messed up, and I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t want to lose her."
There was a pause before Noah spoke again. "Then show her, Ethan. Don’t just say you’ve changed—prove it. Show her that you’re not the same guy who walked away before."
Ethan exhaled, determination settling in. He knew what he had to do.

Flashback – Five Years Ago
Ethan sat in his car, gripping the steering wheel. His phone buzzed with a text from Maya, his ex-wife.
"We need to talk."
He hadn’t wanted to see her. Their marriage had ended in disaster, with too many mistakes, too many regrets. But when he arrived at the café where she waited, her expression told him everything—she had moved on.
"I just wanted to say goodbye properly," she had said. "I hope you find happiness, Ethan. Real happiness."
But he hadn’t understood what she meant back then. He had drowned himself in work, in meaningless distractions. He had shut people out, thinking it was easier that way.
Until Isla.
She had been the first person to make him feel again. And he had almost lost her because of his own fears.

Isla’s Office
Isla was buried in work when her assistant knocked.
"Miss Carter, there’s someone here to see you."
She looked up, confused. "Who?"
Before her assistant could answer, a familiar voice sent chills down her spine.
"Hello, Isla."
Her breath caught in her throat as she looked up and saw Maya—Ethan’s ex-wife—standing in front of her.
Scene 5: The Unexpected Meeting
Location: Café
An hour later, Isla and Maya sat across from each other in a quiet café. Isla’s hands trembled slightly as she stirred her coffee.
"Why are you here?" Isla asked, trying to keep her voice steady.
Maya gave her a small, knowing smile. "Because I think you deserve to know the truth about Ethan."
Isla stiffened. "I already know about you. Ethan told me."
Maya nodded. "But did he tell you why we really ended?"
Isla’s heart pounded. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to hear this.
"Ethan wasn’t just a bad husband, Isla. He was a lost man. He didn’t know how to love someone without pushing them away. But…" Maya hesitated before continuing, "But I’ve seen the way he looks at you. And it’s different."
Isla frowned. "Why are you telling me this?"
Maya smiled. "Because I let him go, Isla. And he let me go, too. But you? He’s still fighting for you."
Isla swallowed hard. She didn’t know what to say.

Isla’s Apartment – Night
Isla paced her living room, Maya’s words replaying in her head.
"He’s still fighting for you."
Her phone buzzed. A text from Ethan.
"I don’t know if I can ever undo the past, but I can promise you this—I’ll never run away again. If you’ll let me, I want to show you that I’ve changed. Not with words, but with actions."
Isla stared at the message for a long time.
Then, for the first time in weeks, she replied.
"Meet me tomorrow. We need to talk."
She didn’t know if she was ready to forgive him.
But maybe, just maybe, she was ready to try.

Ethan read Isla’s message and exhaled, relief washing over him.
It wasn’t a promise.
But it was a start.
And for the first time in a long time, he had hope.
