The next morning Tegan felt so exhausted after such an exciting night. She didn't even flit downstairs she walked instead. At the kitchen table the cook had made her a stack of waffles topped with strawberries one of her favorite meals but today she just kept picked at it. Her dream and the idea that she may have preformed shadow magic was weighing heavy on her mind this morning. Queen Iridesa entered the kitchen and kissed Tegan on top of her head. "Eat my little sparkle."
Tegan took a little nibble of her food. "Mother, if I did shadow magic last night am I going to be exiled?" "Of course not Tegan. In fact after I tucked you back in the Elders did a tracing on the magic that was in your room and it was determined that someone cast a spell on you. So today you'll have one of the palace guard accompany you to your classes." Tegan wanted to argue because she hated when she had to have an escort but the look on her mother's face stopped her before she tried to start.
"Yes mother, can I still walk to class with Perri?""Yes that would be fine as long as you have your guard close by. I spoke with your father and we're going to postpone you meeting with any new potential suitors for the time being. Go on upstairs and get your things together for class." Tegan scrapped her plate off over the wastebasket and made her way back upstairs. Today she wore a red dress and a crown made of leaves that she fashioned with her magic.
Each fairy seemed to only be able to work with one type of magic except herself. It was like her energy couldn't decide what her future was going to be. Her mother assured her that it was normal for fairies to experience a variety of different magics before finding one that was their true calling. When she met up with Perri it was clear that she would be a water fairy.
Perri had been having all sorts of water-like powers show up over the last couple of weeks. Today was no different as she had dozens of water droplets just sitting in her hair. When the light hit them it looked like she had tiny sparkles spread throughout her hair. It was a true mark of their friendship that she didn't comment about the royal guard who was shadowing them on the way to class.
Tegan had never felt very comfortable being part of the spotlight and having everyone treat her so differently. That's why she like being around Perri. She never made her feel like that. Today the elder teaching was Lavender ,despite the flowery name she was a sterner teacher who favored fire-like magic. Once everyone was settled in she clapped her hands together twice loudly.
"Now I know most of you have not had your birthdays yet to get your prophecies and find out what your energy magic will be but Marlon had a vision last night." This got everyone's attention, Marlon's visions were very powerful and almost never wrong. Lavender continued "Marlon has seen that everyone will be gaining this knowledge by the end of next week." Excited mummering started to spread through the classroom.
Since this was such a big deal for any fairy to have to wait so long it was very nerve wracking to find out they would not have to wait until their actual birthdays to find out more. Lavender clapped her hands again. "Settle down. Settle down. Later tonight we would like the following students to report back to us: Gavin, Jasmine and Perri. Now let's get on with today's lesson.'
Tegan felt disappointed that her own name wasn't called. Did this mean her classmates were going to get their prophecies tonight? Was it for something else entirely? Maybe she could bug Perri after her meeting to see what the fuss was all about.
