Chapter Three: The Journey into Rebirth

All alone with her furry friend in this vast world, Lex sat in front of the old opera television, it was the usual 4pm show, it's been 7 months since her mother left her all alone with Sansa. She grew bored of everything, everything around seemed to annoy her, she had grown to own up to and accept her reality.

“ I need to get out” she said aloud in her thoughts, to the big city maybe, but mother said it's dangerous, there was a debate going on in her head, she was utterly indecisive and finally, she decided to get out of her rabbit hole. “ I'll leave for the big city tomorrow with Sansa,and I'll make mother proud by becoming a big successful movie star”. She said out loud like a pledge.

She packed up with Sansa, and at dawn she set off for the train station about 20 miles away, she kissed her mother's framed picture, and packed up cookies and milk, in her blue tote handbag, with underwears and Clothes in little quantities, there was cash lying in the cabinet, she took all and climbed on her pink vintage bicycle with Sansa and the blue tote bag inside the basket Infront of the bicycle. She cycled all the way to the train station, she was a bit late, the train had began to rumble and roar, ready for the journey ahead, immediately with the help of a passenger she jumped in with Sansa, she had never been on a train before, out of surprise she wandered into all the cabins and in awe, she touched literally everything she saw. She wasn't looking at her front, then she bumped into the train officer , who asked her for her ticket, she had none, before she could say anything,the passenger who helped her in chipped in and said, she's with me, she's my kid. Lex played along and the query was over, she thanked the raggedy looking man profusely.

The train stopped at Brooklyn heights and all passengers alighted, Lex came down from the train, dumbfounded as she stared at the beautiful world around her, the big city she had always dreamed of, the huge screens on the walls, the tall buildings, they seemed like they did touch the sky, the busy life, the roads were full with moving vehicles, noise filled the air, it felt like she was in an alternate universe, “ where are you headed, Young lady”? The raggedy man said and Interrupted her Daydream. Uhhhhhmmm, I don't exactly know, is there anywhere people new to the city go to? She asked innocently.

The man smiled at her and held out his hand to her and said “ Come on, let's get you to somewhere safe” Lex took his hand and they were well on thier way to the “Safe place”.

They walked together, hand in hand, they chatted along the way, and it was Questions and Answers from the raggedy old man to Lex.

“ Where are you from”?

Greenwhich village.

“ What are you doing all alone and clueless in the city?”

I'm here to start a new life with Sansa, I'm going to be a successful movie star, like Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lopez and Emilia Clarke.

“ Do you parents know of your whereabouts?”

My ma, is watching me from the skies, she's late.

“ Sorry about that, what about your father”?

I've no father. And I'm Lex by the way, what's your name?

“ Ray, call me Uncle Ray.

They both chatted, until they came into an alley, deserted and musty, Lex sensed a foul play and began to feel uneasy, we're almost there, Ray assured her, they kept going deep into the dark, foggy alley, she heard distant screams, her senses tingled, this place definitely was no safe place, she tried to loosen her grip from Ray's hand, but Ray held her closely and tight, she struggled to be free from his grip, but all to no avail, she began to scream and yell for help, but there was no one to come to her aid, she struggled in vain as her pleadings fell on mean, deaf ears, Ray was obviously stronger than she was, so he dragged her vigorously into a corner, and banged the iron door that stood in front of them, and then a rather gaunt and haggard looking woman, who looked like she's had no sleep in years, with her eyes deep into their sockets, having a sickly appearance, tall and dangly with blood stains all over her white apron, opened the door and Ray yanked Lex into the door and shut the door behind them, Ray threw her on the floor, she landed with a thud, she stood up immediately and just then the haggard looking lady, slid a needle into her neck and infused a sedative into her body, she fell and unconscious and it was lights out.

Few hours later, Lex awakened with a heavy head, it felt like she was hungover, she found herself on the foam that lay on the floor, in a rather empty room, with Sansa curled up by her side, she stood up nursing her forehead with her palm, due to a headache, wondering where she was, she walked towards the door, and opened it to a rather eerie and uncanny environ. The lights were fluctuating and the stench of the place was nauseating, she could hear distinctive footsteps heading her direction, immediately she took Sansa in her arms and ran back to the room, where she awakened earlier, laid on the foam, and pretended to be asleep.

Someone came into the room, she squinted her eyes a little, to get a view, and it was the haggard looking woman, the woman came closer to Lex, examining her, and taking notes, soon after, the haggard lady left the room and lex jolted up, strategizing plans for escape, “ I've been kidn*pped she thought, but abductors always ask for a Ransom, and uncle Ray knows I have no family, there's definitely something else happening here, it just doesn't add up “ lex thought instinctively.

She walked towards the door again and opened it, but this time, it made a loud creak sound, Lex was flabbergasted and scared to the bones, she knew the haggard looking lady probably heard the door creak.

Suddenly the haggard lady barged into the room and said to her in a rash voice “ I see you're awake” stay away from me, lex retorted, I wish to leave at once, I have no business here.

The Haggard lady leaned closer and cupped lex's cheek with her rough palms, and then said to her, Sleep child, it's going to be an exhaustive day tomorrow, before lex could say a word she pierced another sedative into lex's neck and it was lights out for Lex.
