Chapter Twenty-Three “Good God! What in hell, is stuffed down there?” A deep mans voice shouts out above the noise of heavy traffic. White feathers, bird bones, litter and dead leaves cover the heavy metal drain. Brown water and grainy gravel filled ice slush, gushes over the unpleasant collection along the concrete gutter and down the hill towards the wharf. A large dark pool floods across the road. The shovel scrapes away at the mashed pile revealing the drains edge. Snow falls fast onto the work man’s bright orange colored back, as he struggles to lever up the cover. The city Water Board Corporation truck is parked protecting the three workers. Its orange rotating lights reflect off the misted up windscreens of passing vehicles.
