Chapter Fifty-One
The red neon motel sign shines out brightly across the car park. Matilda closes the curtains and moves to the door checking the chain and latch. Petra and Josephine push the bedside cabinet in front of the door and up end a bed base, against the window, then another against that. The room is secure.
Four mattresses are laid out along the back wall. Clothes are neatly folded at the foot of every one. Weapons all line up between each made bed. Four pizza boxes and bottled water sit in the middle of the floor. Jacqueline comes in from the adjoining room smiling. All of them are dressed in thermal Long Johns.
