Veronica awoke the next morning and opened her eyes, only to immediately close them again and groan. Her head and eyes were on fire! She rolled over and tried to get comfortable, but it was no use. She opened her eyes again to see a tall glass of water sitting on her bedside table. She immediately grabbed the glass and slowly sipped from it. After finishing the glass, she laid her head back down onto her pillow and took a deep breath. What the hell happened last night?
Let’s see…. She remembered dancing, and having a couple drink, and then the crazy s*x she had on stage with Jonathon, and that girl. She remembered dancing topless. She remembered having one more drink, and then another. She danced with Alice, with men and women she didn’t know. She remembered feeling desirable, sexy, and confident for the first time in her young life. She had a few more drinks, and then that’s where it really started to get fuzzy. She remembered brief moments; the dance floor clearing out, sneaking up the stairs, her face hitting her pillow. She turned over again in her bed and looked to Alice’s bed. It was still perfectly made, just the way she had left it the night before. Did Alice come home with her? She vaguely remembered Alice sneaking up the stairs with her. Veronica’s stomach growled. Ugh, food. She knew she was starving, but food sounded so sickening. She climbed out of bed, put a loose jacket on over her pajamas, and stepped out of the dorm room, closing the door behind her.
She made her way down to the cafeteria, getting lost for a few minutes but eventually finding her way. She was proud; she knew that she would have to get used to walking the campus by herself at some point. Perhaps Alice’s absence this morning was a good thing, teach her some self-reliance. She eyed the menu before choosing bacon, eggs, hash browns, and a tall glass of water. She sat by herself and slowly ate her food. She noticed the cafeteria was almost entirely empty. She checked her phone; 7:05AM, still early, especially since most of the students were out partying all night. A cafeteria worker sat a few tables away from her, talking on his cell phone. A table of four guys sat on the opposite side of the cafeteria. Halfway through her meal she noticed that they were all looking at her and talking. They must have recognized her from last night! She sank into herself, knowing that she must look horrible, but she was in no state to go through with getting all done up just for breakfast.
Veronica finished off her meal. She handed in her dirty dishes, and then headed back to her dorm room. Exhausted from her trip, she pulled her jacket off, threw it to the ground, and climbed back into bed. She played with her phone for a few minutes before dozing off for a much-needed nap. She was awoken again by the noise of someone else entering the dorm room. She opened her eyes and sat up. Alice!
“Hey, where’ve you been all morning?”, asked Veronica, groggily.
“Oh, I ended up staying over at someone else’s room. Hope you’ve been okay all by yourself. Did you get yourself something to eat?”, asked Alice, while changing out of her clothes from the night before into a pair of leggings and cozy sweater.
“Yeah, I made it down. I was up super early,” said Veronica, closing her eyes again.
“Okay, cool! Well I haven’t eaten yet and it’s almost noon, so I’m going to grab lunch. You want anything?”, asked Alice.
“Uh, yeah. Something light though, maybe a nice salad?”, said Veronica.
“I’ll see what I can do, Vee. See you in a bit!”, said Alice, cheerfully. Veronica had already dozed off again before Alice had even closed the door.
Veronica woke up a few hours later and found herself alone, and a bag sitting on her desk. She opened it up to find a bright green salad topped with fruits and berries, and a large piece of crusty bread. She poured herself a glass of water and ate the entire meal; the salad was particularly delicious, it had a sweet dressing that paired perfectly with the fruit. She tossed the empty food packaging into the garbage can. She stretched, and noticed that her headache was finally gone! She took a quick shower, changed into a pair of leggings and a loose t-shirt, and looked around her room. With Alice gone again, she didn’t know what to do with herself. She read ahead in her school books, taking some notes. She packed her backpack up perfectly for the next day, set out which uniform she planned to wear, and planned out how she would do her makeup and hair. She sighed and looked at her phone; it was almost six but she wasn’t hungry at all. She didn’t know what to do with herself; she still didn’t feel up to going to the gym. She wished she had some friends other than Alice on campus, because she didn’t hardly know what to do with herself when she wasn’t around. Veronica started to tear up, but decided that some alone time would probably do her some good. She took a bag of popcorn off of their snack shelf, and streamed 90 Day Fiancé online while snacking. She felt better, and relaxed. She took out a piece of paper and spent the rest of her evening watching TV and doodling. At 10, she decided that it was time for bed. She changed back into her fuzzy pajamas, turned the lights out, and laid down. She closed her eyes and dreamed about starting her new journey in school.
