Jackson’s POV
The council left within minutes of sending away Lilith. This was going to be utter chaos to deal with, and I’m simply glad my father has already died. He would be losing his mind if he knew what was happening right now, I would be called weak. He always told me growing up that death was better than dishonor to our bloodline. To be fair though, his solution would’ve been to kill Lilith to keep her quiet and that sounds a bit extreme. She wasn’t entirely wrong for thinking I’m a monster, but as far as I’m concerned I was forced into this too.
I wanted to find my own mate and live her dearly, not some random girl sold off as my Luna for diplomatic purposes. Lilith and I had started off in the wrong foot when she was essentially kidnapped, and it never got any better. The only way to keep her compliant was her brother, and she did in fact have so stay quiet. Arranged marriages were taboo now, and frowned upon in addition to the fact her father essentially sold her for ministry gain being considered a low for an alpha.
There was little I could do to remedy what Lilith just showed my entire pack now though. They already didn’t like me, so I’m sure this is all very believable anyway. I had some ideas to get them back in line, but I’m not sure how feasible any of them were. I couldn’t gain their trust with violence, that would simply make it worse. I also couldn’t try to make Lilith like a terrible person, they really did know better. I’d simply have to play my cards perfectly to sway them, though I’m not sure it was even possible.
I left the conference room and returned to Fiona, hoping to offer her some comfort in the mean time. The entire ordeal has been very stressful for her, and stress wouldn’t be good for my pup. That pup needs to live regardless of what becomes of me. He will be my revenge if all else fails, I will preserve my families legacy. The idea of anything even happening to Fiona, much less the baby, made my blood boil.
It had been such a long night already, so I secretly hoped she would be sleeping right now. She needed the rest. I knocked on the door softly, waiting for her to open it. The door slowly creaked open and my little beauty peaked around it. Her cheeks were stained with tears and her cheeks were rosy from her crying so heavily. My heart filled with guilt, I didn’t want her to feel this way because of me. I pushed into the room and picked her up, nuzzling my face into her neck affectionately.
“Fiona, I’m sorry you had to witness that.” I purred, stroking her cheeks and wiping the tears away from them.
“Did you really hit her?” She whispered, refusing to look at me.
“Of course not honey, she was simply trying to deceive us. That little minx must be a witch to conjure up such a false vision.
Fiona shot me a side glance but then looked back away from me, clutching her stomach gently. She already had a little bump forming, wolfs gestation varied a bit from humans being between 4-5 months. However sometimes an Alpha could be born faster. I reached out and place my hand over hers, wanting the little tingles I feel when I touch her. She stiffened, but quickly relaxed at my touch, stroking her fingers against my hand.
“You know there is a family of wolf and witch hybrids that move between packs, aloha?” She asked, leaning back against me and closing her eyes.
“That’s simply a myth Fiona, how old are you?” I teased, thinking she was joking. “This would be a lovely tale to tell our son.”
“I am entirely serious Jackson.” She snapped back, making me jump a little. She’s so feisty, it’s really hot.
“And how would you come to that conclusion my little spit fire?“ I kissed the top of her head, a bit amused now.
“My family is the one that killed the first warlock mate. She was my great great aunt, betrothed to a warlock with her status? They couldn’t ever let that happen in our bed family!” She explained, getting even more fired up talking about it.
“Lilith isn’t anything special Fiona, there’s no way she’s a part of that family. Both of her parents come from very prestigious families that have nothing to do with that one.” I rationalized, knowing full well her parents were not any sort of magical beings.
Fiona sighed and nodded, “I suppose you’re probably right.”
I pulled her against me and into my lap, kissing her soft lips hungrily. Her hands grabbed at my button up shirt, desperately trying to undo it. The coldness of her hands on my bare chest made me inhale sharply, only seeming to encourage her. Her eagerness made me chuckle, causing her to stop and glare at me.
“What pudding? I’m just intrigued by your excitement.” I teased, already getting strong whiffs of her excitement.
My wolf was pushing out a bit, wishing to claim her all over again at this moment. He grabbed her waist and forcefully pulled her closer, she squeaked at the sudden movement but did not object any further. I took a deep breath and pushed my wolf back out of control, much to his disdain.
“You know they call them mate for a reason a**hole.” He growled in my mind, scratching at the wall I had put up.
“You can’t get her more pregnant either you h**ny dog.” I snapped back, removing my hands from her body.
She whimpered at me, obviously unhappy about the loss of physical contact. Her puppy eyes were almost enough to make me pounce back on her, but I had a lot of work to do. My Princess would simply have to wait her turn for my attention.
“I have to do some work pudding, I will come back and take care of you, I promise.” I winked at her, making her blush deeply and nod.
“Yes alpha, I’ll be waiting.” She whispered, crawling over to our bed presumably to wait for me.
With that I took my leave from our room, Fiona’s story still burning in my mind. If there were such hybrids it would be wise to harness them and use them for my benefit. Such a hybrid could likely win wars single handedly! I would have some of my men do a bit of snooping and maybe I could find one or two to force into my pack. These people couldn’t be alphas, no one would allow such treachery. I mind linked my beta Hayden and asked him to do some snooping for me, if anyone would find it, it’d probably be him. He didn’t answer my mind-link, which was odd, but I assumed he heard me.
The silence in the pack house at this moment was deafening. I hadn’t ever heard such silence in these walls within the 20+ years I’ve lived here. This was just an odd feeling, like I was being avoided, it angered me. Without even thinking I punched the wall in the living room, growling out in frustration.
“Where the hell is everyone!” I snarled, making the walls of the pack house shake violently.
There was still a long pause of silence after my out burst, but slowly I started to hear some shuffling about the house as if people were back to working. I could hear the clanging about it the staff in the kitchen and some scurrying of the cleaners in the house doing laundry and what sounded like sweeping. This avoidance behavior wouldn’t do for me, not before and not now.
“I want everyone behind the pack house in 10 minutes. Anyone who fails to do so will be exiled!” I called through mind link to the entire pack.
There was a moment that followed of the same deafening silence. A few sighs and the slow shuffle of feet signified everyone’s obedience to an alpha command. Good, everyone was still their place despite the slight upheaval. I myself began to shuffle outside, standing atop the hill to the left of the yard, watching my pack usher themselves in before me. My eyes were dark, my wolf still threatening to push forward and kill anyone who dared question my position.
My Beta walked up beside me, giving me a blank look as he took his spot to my right. His eyes never did meet mine, and he looked out to the crowd without a hint of emotion to him. I feel like he’s hiding something, or that even he too is ready to turn his back on me. I focused back on my now entirely present pack.
“The events of last night were brutal, and all false!” I started, earning absolutely no reaction from the pack, only fueling my anger.
“She is a lying wench who was unable to even bear an heir for this pack and my position. The luna you all think you know and love was nothing but a phony. Not even my real mate! She was just a paid for queen to fill the void in our pack. No longer. The woman I slept with when she caught me was my true mate. Another alphas daughter and a fit woman to be your true luna!” This was met with lots of gasps and whispering, but not everyone seemed stirred by this notion. Many continued to look at me with hatred and disbelief.
“And to top it off I have news. The next Alpha of this pack has been conceived. Your luna has already become pregnant.” I announced.
There were very mixed reactions in the crowd, many not reacting in the slightest to my announcement. Others cheered and whooped in excitement of a child, but I could feel the unrest of their true feelings. None of them wanted me as an alpha, but they didn’t have to. The only way to leave this pack was to go rogue, I wouldn’t accept any transfers to another pack. It would be my way, or the Highway.
I howled out, calling to my pack for them to join me, and they mostly did. We howled for several minutes with the rising sun. A new Dawn was indeed breaking, and I would be the ruler of it all.
