Lilith’s POV “Maybe if you weren’t so worthless I could’ve loved you.” His words stung in my chest like a silver bullet. I inhaled sharply, trying to keep my face and body language as neutral as possible. He wants a reaction from me, but I refuse to give it to him. A mate? Him? He certainly didn’t deserve one, I actually pitied whoever this poor girl ones for being stuck with him for all of eternity. He is simply put a monster. -2 years ago- *TW DV* “You’re a worthless b**ch!” Jackson snarled in my face, slamming me into the wall roughly. I cried out in pain, feeling at least two of my ribs crack from the impact. “Jackson please! I’m sorry!” I begged, wanting him to stop hitting me. My nose was bleeding along with my lip where he has punched me in the face. I wanted it all to stop. There was no escaping this personal hell though, he would kill my entire family if I tried to escape. If I had to endure daily pain to keep them safe I would do it. “I paid so much money to have you! To have a pup! Your father is a sham!” He screamed, kicking me as I lay on the floor. I cried, trying to cover my ribs and head from his attack. This only seemed to anger him more as my beating continued. Every month he would try to produce an heir, and every month it would fail, ending in another cycle. I was punished every time I failed, but deep down I prayed I never would conceive his child. I’d be trapped here forever If I did. He was so strong, and I felt so weak compared to it. Another harsh blow to my head put me into darkness, it was comforting. -modern day- “That’s fine alpha do what you want for the pack.” I responded through gritted teeth, trying to remain composed. “Good, you’re dismissed.” He sighed, allowing me to leave. I nodded and stepped out and back towards my office. Only when I was out of ear shot did I let out the choked sob that I had been trying to contain. I put my hand over my mouth to muffle the sounds. Truly, I shouldn’t be jealous or even upset by him anymore. He never loved me or showed me any care, and the treatment only got worse when I didn’t produce an heir immediately. I was certainly not jealous of whomever his mate was, but it all stung so badly. I walked to the beta bedroom and nocked on the door firmly. I heard some scrambling around before Hayden opened the door. He stared at my tear streaked face, a look of understanding on his face. The door opened wider and his mate, Ginger, peaked out at me. “Oh Luna!” She called, distraught by the look on my face. I broke down and hugged her, sobbing as quietly as I could. The pack didn’t need to be aware of the drama with the alpha. Much less did I want their pity right now. For the idea in my head, I would need to be strong, and I would need to continue being their favorite leader. “I’m sure Hayden already told you he’s not my mate. But he’s abusive, and I want to leave.” I whispered, shaking slightly. “That’s understandable, if you were to leave everyone would understand.” Ginger cooed, rubbing my back. “I want revenge.” I was impossibly quieter this time, slowly moving my eyes up to her. Hayden stiffened, and she sighed before looking at him. They knew where I was going with this, and I could tell they weren’t over the moon about it. “I am going to challenge him when I bust him, I’m working on this cool ability I have. I’ll be able to show the entire pack what he’s done to me, and prove his Infidelity.” I explained, trying to use that ability now. I focused as hard as I could on the memory, and mind linked both of them, showing a clip of a beating he’d given me a few weeks ago. They both gasped, and Ginger had some tears forming in her eyes. “I’m still getting the hang of showing memories or through my eyes, but I think I’ve almost mastered it. I just need to physically be stronger.“ I explained, looking at Hayden hopefully. Hayden gulped and looked away from me, obviously thinking. What he would be doing could be considered treason, going against his alpha to help a challenger. I knew I could win though. Astrid was forever blabbering in my head about my special abilities and how to better use them. I wasn’t sure where they came from, but I needed the help. “I’ll help you, but he can never know.” Hayden finally concluded, looking first at Ginger and then at me. I smiled and hugged him, grateful. “Thank you Hayden. I swear when this is all over I will give you an appropriate thanks.” I ruffled his hair playfully, pulling ginger in on the hug. They both smiled and nodded, obviously still a bit nervous. This was a big ask, but I would beat him. I’m not entirely convinced I’ll be able to stop Astrid from killing the man. I excused myself from their room, just now realizing that they were only half dressed from whatever actives they had been up to. My cheeks flushed slightly as I turned to leave, now embarrassed by my intrusion. I walked back to my office in silence, needing to actually do some work now. “Luna?” My assistant stepped from my office with a quizzed look on her face. “Yes Sadie?” After I asked, a small girl stepped around the corner with he, crying softly. The younger looking female approached me, looking a bit distraught. She bowed to me deeply before speaking. “Luna, I’m so sorry to bother you. It seems we have run out of eggs. I know alpha will be upset.” Her eyes were glued to the floor and she looked genuinely upset. “Oh sweetheart, he will be okay. Did someone forget to order them?” I questioned, a bit confused as to how we were out when we got dozens daily from the farming wolves of the pack. “None of the farmers have come today, they normally are here by now. The kitchen manager tried calling and hasn’t heard anything.” She explained softly, still averting her gaze from my face. I hated that all of the low ranking wolves were so afraid of me. I felt there was little reason why they needed to treat us this way as I saw all of our pack members as family. My mind racked for a reasonable explanation as to why the farmers hasn’t been by yet this morning. There wouldn’t be any traffic and I doubted there was any easy explanation. I decided I would go see myself what was wrong.I read her name tag, “Lucy” it read. “Alright Lucy, I will look into it. In the meantime don’t worry your pretty head about things beyond your control.” I patted her head gently and offered a sincere smile. “Ginger” I called through our mind link softly. “Yes Lilith?” She quickly responded, sounding a bit groggy like she’d just awoken. “The farm truck hasn’t come this morning, I was going to see if you’d join me to go investigate the reason?” I waited for a response but there was a few minutes of silence. I prepared to go alone, quickly grabbing a few things incase anytbing was amiss. However as I went to go out the door a half awake Ginger stumbled down the stairs. She was dressed and had her hair pulled back, but she obviously was not very awake. “Let’s go find that truck.” She mumbled, walking with me to my car. “Thank you luna!” Lily bowed to me again before scurrying off. I drove a pretty regular car. Nothing too fancy that got me where I needed to go. We both kept our eyes peeled for anything strange as we drove to the farms on the outskirts of the pack. We didn’t find them anywhere on the way but as we approached the farms on the other side of the hills my jaw dropped. Something was in fact horribly wrong. “Jackson. I need as much backup as you can send to the farm lands.” I called desperately, my jaw ajar at the sight before me. The fields were ablaze, all the crops going up in dark billowing smoke. I got out of my car and made a mad dash for the farm houses. What I found was utter chaos. Jackson was trying to demand what was wrong in my head, but I couldn’t even respond. I found several distraught farmers doing their best to put out the flames. Ginger ran to them, beginning to bark orders on how to contain the flames. Many of their mates and children were crying, watching as the flames approached their homes. “Are all of the pups accounted for?” I asked one of the women standing in the little congregation. There were seven she wolves and probably three dozen children standing in the little circle watching as about as many men ran around desperately. They all looked around, counting their kids and slowly began to nod. I weighed my options on how to handle this before Jackson and more help arrived. “A few of you stay with the children and the rest of you follow me, we are going to save your homes at least.” They all looked amongst themselves and a few handed off the youngest children to others. In total four of them began to follow me as I went looking for more sources of water. I found some hoses and began to switch on the water. I handed out buckets and began to fill them up as fast I could sending them to help their mates fight the fire. When they would all take off across the fields I would spray down their homes, hoping that if the wood was wet it would be harder for them catch ablaze. Then I had a better idea. I needed to find the watering system out to the fields. I began running around looking for the control box. After a few minutes of farting around I found the gray box at the edge of the field. I didn’t have long, the fire was getting closer to the box. Just as I began to work on the buttons what had to be 50 wolves came dashing over the hills towards us. Jackson was at the front and I could feel his shock through our bond. Just as they got closer, I managed to get the sprinklers on. Pretty quickly after the fires began to subside as the wolves took buckets of water to put out any smoldering spots. I sighed, relieved that I had trusted my gut to check on them.Jackson was speaking to some of the very distraught farmers and I went over to join him. “How did This even happen?” He demanded, stating among the men who already looked tired and confused. “I’m not sure alpha, it was already ablaze this morning when we went to tend the crops.” One finally piped up, shrugging softly. They all looked defeated and I couldn’t blame them. This was their income and job to provide enough food for the pack, we would likely need help with food due to how many crops were lost. I was silently grateful that it was not the livestock that burned. The idea of a bunch of hungry wolves with no protein was terrifying. They all looked up at me. “Thanks to Luna, we spared a bit under half the crops.” A shorter red headed man piped up. “We tried to get the sprinklers to engaged but it was like the water was shut off.” The original tall brunette explained. That was weird, the water had turned on perfectly fine for me. Jackson was grumbling to himself, obviously debating what to do. It was obviously not their fault but he was not always very rational. I grabbed his arm, making his eyes shoot up to mine with a glare. I smiled softly and motioned him away from the men. “It’s not their fault and you know that. You should probably try and investigate how it started.” I stared blankly, not breaking my gaze from him. He huffed at me, “no really?” He snared making me raise my brow. “I’m front of everyone?” I reminded as I felt many eyes on our encounter. His eyes and face instantly softened and he nodded. “Hayden!” He called out to his beta who quickly ran up to us. “I’m going to put you in charge of discovering what causes this. I’m going to speak to a few neighboring Ally’s to discuss buying food from them.” He spoke loud enough for anyone around to hear him. Most of the group seemed satisfied with his answer. The warriors who had come with him to help began the march back to the pack house. The farmers began to clean up what they could while they women and children went back into their homes. I was so hurt for them; knowing how hard this would be to recover from. I waved goodbye to them and began to walk back to my car with Ginger. She sighed as she plopped in my passenger seat and shot me a look. “He isn’t going to punish them is her?” She finally mustered out. “No, not if I have any say over the matter.” Silence fell over us as we began the drive back. It was already mid afternoon by the time we arrived back at the pack house. Ginger and I both had some paperwork to work on and each went to our respective offices to work on it. No sooner than I had sat in my chair Sadie entered my office. “Luna, I heard you had a long day. Alpha asked me to give these papers to you.” She whispered with a soft smile, placing the papers on my desk. “Thank you Sadie, how are you?“ I asked, wanting to make sure her two children were doing well. “Oh well, Tyler and Tina are both doing well and school. I’m managing right now.” She confirms for me before exiting my office. I flipped through the papers and groaned, of course he wanted me to make the calls to the neighboring packs. They all liked me more than him anyway. He was so cold and brash while I would actually catch up with them before putting in my favors. It took me three hours to finish setting up the resources needed for the following season food wise. All the alphas had been very helpful and I promised to return the favors when they needed it. I signed in relief, knowing my pack wouldn’t have to ration food or be hungry. I leaned my head on my desk and sighed. It had been such a long and dramatic day I barley realized how late it was. I sighed again, a bit annoyed. As I went to get up to return to my room, I felt a searing burning. It’s a burn that radiates from my lower abdomen and my neck where my mark is. I had been feeling it since Jackson came home a few days ago, but after the conversation today, realization hit me like a train. Jackson was sleeping with that girl, and because of the mark on my neck I could feel it. I groaned in agony, squeezing my knuckles until they turned white. “How dare he.” Astrid snarled in my head. She was angry. “It’s time little one, we need to leave him.” She encouraged me. I winced, knowing what she meant by this. The begging Hayden for help would now be in vein, but at the very least I knew his loyalty was to me. I just prayed the council would allow my challenge and that my mind linking powers would work. As I walked up to his room I focused as hard as I could on the entire pack. Slowly I began to hear little Choruses asking what was wrong or little signals that they could hear me. Then I focussed on showing them what I was seeing. “Shhh she’s trying to show us something.” Came Gingers soft voice in my head, making all the others go quiet. I assumed this meant they could see it as I slowly reached out for the door. He must not have heard or smelled me yet, or he didn’t care. I opened the door, slamming it into the wall behind it. This was when the mind-link must have included them. There was a loud chorus of gasps that made my head hurt but I remained focussed. Before my eyes was my husband, on top of a small girl. They were both stark naked without even a blanket over them for modesty. I allowed tears to pool in my eyes, I could feel the packs pity. I whined, choking on a sob as Jackson stared at me, still seeing what I was seeing in his head. The small girl beneath him whined softly, knowing the gravity of this situation. I had to admit she was beautiful, her face was simply beautiful. Her eyes held nothing but kindness and slight fear. “I, Lilith Reeves, Denounce you as my husband and mate” I finally hissed at him. My sadness was turning to anger. Jackson slowly pulled himself off of the girl he was sleeping with and acted as if he would attack me. Instead he fell to the floor hissing in agony. The mark on my neck burned painfully, but I did not even wince, rather I watched on as he withered in the bed. “Furthermore…” I began, “I challenge you for your position as alpha.” This brought on another gasp before silence fell. My head was pounding from how hard I had to focus to share my vision and I released the mind link, leaving everyone to wonder what was going to happen now. Jackson was still hissing in pain from my rejection. “How dare you you stupid b***h!” He snarled, actually going to lunge for me this time. It was in this moment I noticed something I hadn’t before. A fourth heartbeat in the room. Moments before Jackson landed a blow to my chest I stepped to the side. My head turned to the girl and I sniffed, and Jackson paled as he realized I noticed it. His mate was pregnant, not only that but would be carrying the future alpha. He pinned me to the wall violently, making my head hit it. “Leave my pup alone.” He snarled, getting way too close to my face. Before we could even argue about anything there was a hissing sound. As if my magic 6 people appeared in the room before us. It was the werewolf council, and they certainly did not look happy. “What is the meaning of this?” The leading man boomed. He was very tall, probably 7’ and had blonde hair and piercing green eyes. I gulped slightly and just stared at Jackson. He was hurriedly releasing me from the wall, trying to make it seem like he was trying to hurt me. They all took in the situation with soft gasps. The two women among them looked at his mistress, realizing the same thing I had. “Alpha Jackson had an affair, she’s with child.” One woman announced, staring at the rest of the council. She was small and looked older, a bit frail actually. They all snapped their head and sniffed, realizing she was right. Jackson ran to his mate, growling defensively at all of us. The council gasped at his actions, even more shocked by his challenging growl. “Jackson, sit.” The leader commanded making even the alpha obey the command. They began to whisper amongst themselves, obviously very rattled by this situation. None of them knew that I was not his true mate, and I planned for it to remain that way. I focused my mind on the abuse I had endured from him, trying to show the council what I had suffered. Slowly they went quiet as the slideshow of beatings and harsh words unfolded before them. I was showing Jackson and his mate as well. I showed them everything from the clip of me entering the room to the years of abuse and harsh words. Everyone was even more tense as if it was even possible. His mate scooted away from him and whined, clutching her belly in fear. Jackson went stiff as a board, realizing how much s**t he was actually in right now. After the slide show stopped, all of the council shot me a confused look. I knew this was not something the average werewolf could do, but for some reason I could. For now they ignored that, and their eyes turned to Jackson. Jackson whined, refusing to make eye contact with anyone in the room. “Alpha Jackson these are very serious allegations!” Another man finally piped up. “Yes sir but-“ Jackson was cut off by the leader raising his hand and inhaling deeply. “We have decided to allow her challenge.” He started, making Jackson growl and punch the wall beside him in a fit of rage. “She is not fit to be a leader!” He snarled, only to get a smirk from the woman of the council. “Actually, Jackson, we get calls all the time talking about what an amazing luna you have. Your pack seems very loyal to her. On the other hand, we get nothing but complaints regarding you.” She snarled, daring him to continue arguing. I knew this was likely true. Jackson was known for being very unkind and frankly abusive to some of the lower ranking pack members. I had seen him beat an omega for messing up his food among others small grievances. He often had me do his bidding, from the paperwork to meetings, it was all done by me anyway. I looked up to find him goring angrily in my direction but for the first time, I didn’t fear him.
