Chapter Three Izzy POV I stood frozen in my spot as I stared wide-eyed at the huge painting in front of me. The detailing was so perfect. My flower dress, my pigtail, my pocket purse, how the hell was this moment captured perfectly when I had few memories about it, much less a picture? “Why is that here?” I pointed to the painting. His eyes snapped back in the direction of the rude sophisticated-looking lady. And they were brewing with anger. “Elena. Didn’t you receive my message?” “With all due respect I received many messages from you today and so I didn’t-“ “I’m talking about the message where I asked you to get rid of this painting!” Get rid. What the hell? “I must have missed that, I’m sorry.” She didn’t sound sorry, and he looked like he was seconds away from tearing her apart. Well, none of that was my business. What was, was the damn painting. “Why did you need to get rid of the painting, no. Why do you have this painting, I have never met you in my life before, and if I did. I had no picture of me when I was young, so how did you-“ He turned to me, and his chest heaved down as his mouth let out puffs of breath. “I didn’t plan to do it like this, but we did meet when we were young, and I was able to paint it cause I have a strong memory.” “I don’t remember that.” “Well, you don’t remember most things.” His tone was displeased. My eyes bulged. “And how do you know that? s**t have you been keeping an eye on me? Is that why you gave me the art auction?” “Just come to the dining table and have dinner, we will talk after that.” “No. We have to talk now. That dress was from the day my parents died. If you drew it, it means you were present when it happened, so what do you know?” A long silence. “Did you kill them?” “I saved you. You are alive and standing cause I gave you life.” His eyes darkened, his fists tightly clenched as though he wished to punch through something. “Oh wow. So I’m to bow down to you or what?” This guy must be a psycho. A smirk had taken over his darkened expression. “I much prefer my females with their kneels to the floor.” I was taken aback by his confession. He is a psychopath that I had to stay clear of. “I’m out of here.” “If you step out of here I promise you would never keep a job.” What. In .the.fuck. “You must be delusional to think that threat would stop me from leaving.” I sashayed away from him, with my heels clicking on the floor hard. I noticed Elena was smiling ear to ear, like a satisfied pig, but I didn’t care. I just had to get out of here. For the next few days, I tried to get him off my head, and I also tried my best to Avoid any contact with him. I blocked his emails, and thankfully he didn’t have my contacts. Another good thing was that my boss hadn’t called me to his office to give me a sack letter, so I hoped to heavens that it meant the psychopath had given up on me. Rich men were like that, they were always bored and finding things that would interest them, I’m sure this was one of them, Thankfully I let him know that there wasn’t anything interesting to me, I didn’t like the fact that I was unable to find out how on earth we met when I was ten, or why he still kept such a picture till now. But it didn’t matter. Curiosity always killed the cat. And I wished to stay alive. “Ms.” The light tap on my skin brought me back to the present, I looked to see it was my secretary, I had no idea that she had been in my office. “Yes?” “I was knocking on the door but you didn’t respond.” Her eyes furrowed in concern as she pursed her lips. “Sorry about that. What is it?” “There’s a client here, but he isn’t on the appointment list.” “Who is he?” “He said-“ The door barged open cutting her shirt from her words. And the last person I expected to see barged into my office. Adrian. He had his troupe of guards by his side, all looking like he was there to take down the entire building. “Hello, princess. Missed me?” His eyes shone with promises of evil acts, as his lips curved slightly. My jaw clenched as my angry gaze bore into his amused ones. “What are you doing here?” He motioned to sit down, “Can’t I visit my woman?” “I am not your woman. Now take your minions and get the hell out of my office.” My eyes were narrowed and throwing daggers at him. His eyes danced with sparks, as the curve of his lips got bigger. “Be careful princess. They don’t take likely to anyone calling them names.” I threw daggers at the said men and then snapped my gaze back to his. “I’m calling security.” I picked up the telephone fax, punched it in the security hotline, and dialed it. I expected him to stand up and stop me, but instead, he relaxed into the seat, with an amused smile, as though he was watching a show. The security picked on the third ring. “There are rift rafts in my office and I need you to come get them out.” “Yes, ma.” The line disconnects. This time I wore a satisfied smile, but he didn’t seem affected, if anything it was a look of interest. “It’s a shame that you turned out to be an art curator, I thought you would be the artist, I mean you loved to paint when you were little, but habits die old.” I clenched my hands as I flashed him a scathing look. “You know nothing of me.” My voice was low and edgy. “No darling. It is you who know nothing, we have been destined right from birth. You just forgot it.” “Destined?” “Yes. To be mine.” I scoffed. “You must be mentally disabled.” The door barged open and the security team stepped in. “Get this man out of here.” They looked at Adrian and immediately their stance changed, they avoided eye contact with him, and two of them were shaking like leaves. “What are you waiting for take him away!” I shouted. “Princess. Shouting at my employees is not good. I could have you sacked for endangering their mental health.” Wait what? “Gentlemen back to your post.” “Yes sir.” They echoed before walking out. Leaving me with my eyes wide open. And my pride was hurt. “You should do your research before ordering people around.” “I have worked for this company for years now, I would know if you are indeed the owner.” “Oh let me rephrase. Update your research. I bought this company last night.”’ My eyes widened in shock. “You’re lying.” “I don’t tell lies. You see the princess. You’re not just an employee of the art company, you are mine now.” I felt shivers run down my spine, he stood up, and suddenly my office felt too small. He was so tall and bulky. “I am not yours. Nor will I ever be.” I folded my hands, leaning against my seat to act unaffected by his actions. His lips curved into a lopsided grin. “It’s cute when you act defensive. But it doesn’t erase the truth, come to my house to finish the dinner we couldn’t have tonight. If you fail to do that, I will fire you.” And with that he turned around and walked out of the door, followed by his troupe of men. I slouched my shoulders and slammed my back against the seat in a sigh of frustration. This is not happening. And to think I thought I wouldn’t get sacked cause my boss mentioned nothing about it, He hadn’t been able to cause Adrian had been busy buying the company from him, and when he did, he struck me hard. I couldn’t lose my job, I had to take care of Nana and my cousin Mae, they lived in Tennessee with hopes of my money to sustain them. But I can’t also succumb to that bastard's wishes. What do I do? Find a new job? What’s the guarantee that he wouldn’t buy the company there, and getting a job isn’t a piece of cake, I had been lucky to land this job here, especially since I didn’t finish my college education. Argh. Why does the bastard want me? But wait. Shouldn’t I try to find out though? I mean he knew about my past. And I have always been curious about the memories I lost. Nana says she knows nothing. So she couldn’t help. Plus I would keep this job and be able to help her, and while doing that I would get close to the jerk and find out what he knew, I could get closure of the past and keep my job. It wasn’t that bad of a plan. Right? An unknown message popped on my phone with a picture that left my blood running cold. And my heart beating fast. No way.
