I ignore her question completely and continue scrubbing every part of her body. My hands move over her arms, careful around the angry red rashes, then down to her shoulders and across her collarbone. The water around us is already turning dark with blood and dirt, making my stomach twist with rage every time I look at it. How much pain has she endured? How much suffering has been inflicted on this girl who's supposed to be mine, who's supposed to be protected and cherished?
